Utica, NY (1/11/2014) – The Utica College men and women swim and dive teams were defeated by Alfred University Saturday afternoon convincingly in Empire 8 action at the McLane Athletic Center.  The men lost 128-75 while the women fell 145-48.

Freshman Mikey Maxwell (Newport, NY/West Canada) guided the women with two second place finishes in the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard butterfly with times of 27.35 in the 50-yard free and 1:10.39 in the 100-yard butterfly.

Sophomore standout Raphael Warnon paced the men with two second place tallies in the 100-yard backstroke and the 200-yard medley posting final times of 57.49 and 2:09.74.

UC returns home next Saturday, Jan. 18th to play host to Clarkson University. The contest is scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Utica College Pool. Alfred hits the road to face Hartwick in an E8 match next Saturday as well in Oneonta, NY with the gun set to go off at 1 p.m.

The Pioneer women drop to 2-6 on the season while the men even its record at 4-4.  Both squads are 0-2 in the Empire 8. The Saxon women move to an even 3-3 overall while 1-1 in the E8 while the Alfred men improve to 3-2 overall and 2-0 in league play.
