Utica, NY (1-21-14) – The Utica College men and women swim and dive teams travel to Rochester, NY Saturday to challenge Empire 8 rival Nazareth College … The competition will take place at the Otto A. Shults Community Center and is set to start at 1 p.m.

The men currently occupy a 4-5 overall record including a 2-3 mark away from home and look for one more regular season victory to set the single season record under Coach Massoud for wins … The women, on the other hand, have struggled this season and currently hold a 2-8 mark overall and are winless on the road with an 0-5 ledger … Both teams are 0-2 against Empire 8 opponents losing to Hartwick and Alfred.

Freshman
Mikey Maxwell (Newport, NY/West Canada) on the women's squad and sophomore Raphael Warnon on the men's currently lead the Pioneers in points and victories this season … Maxwell has racked up nine victories so far in the 100 & 200-yard freestyles while Warnon has recorded an impressive 13 wins in the 100 & 200-yard backstroke.
Last Time Out – Pioneers Downed By Clarkson
The UC men and women swim and dive teams lost to Clarkson University this past Saturday by a combined score of 305-202 at the Utica College Pool on Senior Day … Four Pioneers including Josh Mannarino and Colin Hart for men along with
Jordan Hess (Victor, NY/Victor Senior ) and
Evelyn Kurzac (Mundelein, IL/Mundelein Cons) for the women were honored prior to the competition for all of their hard work and efforts over the years … Hart grabbed 11 points for UC while Mannarino collected two and aided two relay teams to another three points … Kurzac and Hess combined for 20 points as the senior duo each recorded two second place finishes and one fourth place tally … Kurzac took second in the 100 & 200-yard backstroke events and fourth in the 100-yard butterfly while Hess posted second in both the 500 & 1000-yard freestyles and fourth in the 200-yard medley.
On the men's side, Raphael Warnon led the way with 18 points winning both the 100 & 200-yard backstroke events … Warnon clocked final times of 57.30 in the 100 and 2:04.44 in the 200 … Freshman Tyler Good had a solid outing as he grabbed 13 points with a victory in the 500-yard freestyle and a second place finish in the 1000-yard with times of 5:24.68 and 11:13.40 … Junior Anthony Farber took third place in both the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard breaststroke totaling six team points for UC in the loss.
For the women, standout
Mikey Maxwell (Newport, NY/West Canada) posted three victories on the afternoon, gathering 27 team points … Maxwell won the 100 & 200-yard freestyles with times of 26.65 and 58.91 while wrapping up the day with her third in in the 100-yard butterfly with a clock of 1:08.58 … Sophomore
Jessica Schumann (Nashua, NH/Nashua South) finished the day with 12 points for Utica as she finished second in three event. Schumann collected four points in each in the 200-yard medley as well as in the 100 & 200-yard Breaststrokes.
Golden Flyer's Scouting Report
The Nazareth men are currently 2-4 overall including a 1-2 mark at home but have lost three straight heads up matches … After opening up the season with a loss to Alfred the Golden Flyer men strung together two straight over St. Lawrence and Brockport before falling victim to a three game skid … The women hold a 4-3 mark on the season and are 2-1 in their home pool.
The women kicked off the season with three straight over Alfred, St. Lawrence and Brockport before losing to Hartwick and Rochester, convincingly … So far in 2014, they are 1-1 after splitting a three way match in Fredonia, NY … Naz beat Fredonia however fell to Ithaca by over 100 points.
UC Wraps Up Regular Season in Canton
The Pioneers remain on the road next Saturday as they conclude the regular season against St. Lawrence University … The contest will be held at the Augsbury Pool in the Augsbury Physical Education Center (Canton, NY) and is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. … The St. Lawrence women are currently 5-1 whereas the men are presently winless at 0-6 on the season … The Saints will visit Hartwick College on Saturday, Jan. 25th before playing host to UC the following week.
