Box Score Utica, NY (1/24/14)- The nationally ranked No. 10 Utica College women's hockey team fell to ECAC West frontrunner and No. 1 ranked Plattsburgh State, 8-0 Friday night at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.
The Pioneers got out to a quick start, outshooting Plattsburgh 4-2, including a breakaway from sophomore
Morgan Reed (Fort Myers, FL/Cushing Academy), however Plattsburgh net minder Sydney Aveson was up to the task.
The Cardinals opened the scoring at 5:16 of the first and went on to score two more times before the end of the period. Plattsburgh added two more scores in the second period to take a 5-0 lead. It appeared that Reed had tallied a goal, but it barely rang off the crossbar and UC went into the second intermission trailing 5-0.
The Cardinals continued to pressure and were able to add three more tallies in the final frame to bring the score to 8-0. Both Alyssa Parke and Bridget Balisy had two goals on the evening, while Aveson had 20 saves for her ninth shutout of the season.
Plattsburgh improves its undefeated record to 15-0-1 (8-0 ECAC West), while the Pioneers drop to 11-4 (6-3 ECAC West). Both teams return to the Aud tomorrow for their series finale. Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
