Pittsford, NY – The Utica College men's soccer team outshot host Nazareth College 16-13 on the afternoon, but the Pioneers could not overcome two early scores by the home team, as the Golden Flyers came away with a 2-0 victory in Empire 8 Conference play Sunday.
Ryan Foley netted two goals in a span of 11:49 early in the first half and that was all Nazareth would need to earn the conference victory.
The Pioneers' record moved to 4-7-3 overall and 2-3 in Empire 8 play. Utica is winless in its last five games. Nazareth improved to 4-10 overall and is now tied with UC in the conference standings at 2-3 in the E8.
Foley's first goal came on a penalty kick at 11:04 and he added his seventh goal of the season at 22:53 to give the Golden Flyers the early 2-0 advantage.
Utica dominated the shot category in the second half, outshooting the home team 12-5 in the final 45 minutes, but Naz goalie Diego Abreu turned away 12 shots on the afternoon to preserve the shut out.

Shane Ruffing (Rochester, NY/Westborough) and
Connor Reagan (Sanbornton, NH/Bridgton ) each recorded three shots for the Pioneers, while
Marcel Dupuis (Hannacroix, NY/Greenville) added a team-high four shots. Ruffing leads Utica with 20 points (nine goals, two assists) this season.
The Pioneers return to the pitch for game two of a two-game road trip on Wednesday when they take on SUNY Canton at 6 p.m.
