Pioneers Take Home-Opener Agaisnt Caz to Extend Win Streak

Utica, NY (November 14, 2014) – The Utica College men and women swim and dive teams extended its win streak Friday evening with a home-opening sweep of non-conference rival Cazenovia College.  The men (4-2) downed the Wildcats 103-55 while the women (3-3) posted a 127-93 victory.

UC wraps up 2014 with back-to-back road matches at Skidmore College on Saturday Nov. 22nd then a rematch at Cazenovia on Saturday Dec. 6th.  Both contests are scheduled for 1 p.m.  The Pioneers will then have a month long winter hiatus before hosting three straight competitions at the friendly confines of the UC Pool in January, 2015.

Aly Baribault captained the women's squad with 22 total points over three events.  She collected 18 points for UC as she touched the wall first in the 200 medley with a watch of 2:28.47 and the 500 freestyle with a watch of 5:49.97.

Freshman Phoebe King (New Bedford, MA/GNB Voc Tech) continued her impressive first-year campaign with victories in the 100 yard backstroke (1:07.30) and 200 yard freestyle (2:07.37) to gather 18 points.

Mikey Maxwell (Newport, NY/West Canada) and Grace Gallentine (Clifton Springs, NY/Midlakes) scooped 13 points in the 50 yard freestyle as they grabbed the top two spots with times of 26.84 and 27.27. Gallentine also placed second in the 100 free with a clock of 1:00.81.

For the men,  Tyler Good (Hanover, PA/Southwestern) and Chris Deyette (Canajoharie, NY/Canajoharie) handled the 400 yard individual medley with first and second places finishes, gathering 13 points for Utica.

Raphael Warnon continued his solid streak with victories in the 100 yard butterfly (57.03) and backstroke (1:00.47) to rack up 18 points for the squad.

Anthony Farber, the reigning College's Mae Athlete of the Week, totaled 13 points in two races winning the 100 yard freestyle (53.74) and placing second in the 50 free (24.41).

Aaron Gudrian tallied 13 points for UC in two events as he took first in the 200 yard free (2:02.49) and second in the 100 yard backstroke (1:08.55).
