Women's Hockey Downs Williams in Non-Conference Play

Box Score Williamstown, MA (11/29/14)- The Utica College women's hockey team got back to its winning ways as it downed host Williams College 4-1 in non-conference action Saturday night.  Junior Morgan Reed (Fort Myers, FL/Cushing Academy) led the Pioneers with two goals.

Reed netted her first of the day at 17:36 of the first period to put UC up 1-0.  Senior Nicole Schwartz (Danville, CA/San Jose Sharks) and freshman Veronique Lortie (Chambly, Quebec/Berkshire School) assisted on the play.  The Pioneers added another tally at 6:43 of the second as Carlie Smith (Grimsby, Ontario/St. Catharine's Chaos) netted her first collegiate goal off an assist from junior Janessa Haasbeek (Grand Forks, ND/Canadian International Hockey Academy).

The third period saw three goals scored total as Reed found the back of the net just 13 seconds into the final frame for her team-leading fifth of the year, unassisted.  Utica added another goal with just under two minutes remaining as Gabrielle Schnepp (Northville, MI/Belle Tire) put in a pass from Samantha Pucci (Pearl River, NY/Connecticut Polar Bears) for her second of the season.  The Ephs were able to get on the board as they converted a power play opportunity in the final minute to spoil the shutout.  Michaela Levine took a pass from Hanna Beattie and Emily Krueger off a faceoff for her first of the year.

The home team outshot Utica 30-26 on the day, however senior Marissa McNamara (Camillus, NY/Lysander Lightning) was up to the task, making 29 saves in her second start of the season.  Her counterpart, Charlie Billadeau had 22 saves in the loss.

Utica improves to 3-2 on the year.  The Pioneers return to action as they travel to local rival, Hamilton College, on Tuesday for a 7 p.m. faceoff. UC will resume conference play next weekend with a home-and-home series against SUNY Cortland.
