Utica Bows Out of ECAC West Tournament Against Plattsburgh

UC's Megan Myers will graduate tied for first all-time at UC with 74 career goals
Box Score Plattsburgh, NY (March 8, 2014) – The Utica College women's hockey team dropped a 6-1 decision against nationally-ranked No. 1 and top-seeded Plattsburgh State in the semifinals of the ECAC Women's West Conference Tournament Saturday. The Cardinals scored three goals in the first and third periods to cruise to the five goal victory while earning the right to play for the conference tournament crown and an automatic bid into the NCAA Tournament on Sunday against second-seeded Elmira College.

The Pioneers, who were appearing in their 12th conference tournament, wrapped up their season with a 17-9-1 overall ledger. Utica was making its second straight trip to the conference tournament semifinal game.

Utica's Mackenzie Roy (Clinton, NY/Clinton) netted an unassisted tally with less than three minutes to go in the game to account for the Pioneers lone goal of the contest.

Plattsburgh, which has only allowed five goals on their home ice all season (13 goals allowed total), improved their record to 24-1-1 overall.

Plattsburgh's lone loss this season came at the hands Elmira College, who they will square off against in Sunday's ECAC Championship game.

Plattsburgh outshot UC 49-14 on the afternoon. Six different players scored two points for the Cardinals. Morgan MacInnis, Bridget Balisy, Tyne Gove and Shannon Stewart each registered a goal and an assist for Plattsburgh.

UC senior goalie Jennifer Hamel (Ithaca, NY/Northwood School) stopped 43 shots, including all 21 she faced in the second period. Hamel will graduate tied for the College's all-time record for wins in a career with 35.

Utica will bid farewell to seven seniors who have won 56 games over the course of their four year careers. Senior All-American Megan Myers (Las Vegas, NV/LA Selects) will graduate tied for the school's all-time goal scoring record with 74.

17 wins in a single season for the Pioneers is the most since Utica posted 18 victories back in 2007-08.
