Utica, NY (September 17, 2014) – The Utica College field hockey team cruised to a 4-0 victory over visiting Geneseo on Wednesday evening at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium. UC's
Hannah Mackey (Locke, NY/Moravia Central) and
Colleen Dowling (Fairport, NY/Fairport) each netted a goal and added an assist as the Pioneers won their second in a row and improved to 4-1 overall on the year.
Alaina Stojkovski (Liverpool, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) and
Louise Steele-Norton (Avondale, PA/Millbrook School) each added a goal for the Pioneers, while
Chasity Eckert (Afton, NY/Afton Central) chipped in with one assist. Steele-Norton has extended her goal scoring streak to five games for UC. Geneseo dropped to 2-5 overall in the shutout loss.Â
Junior goalie
Kells Casey (Sandwich, MA/Kimball Union Academy) made four saves in the victory and she now needs three more wins to tie the school-record for career victories. Casey now has 30 career wins in the blue and orange.
Mackey started the scoring in the 22
nd minute when she netted her conference best ninth goal of the season, unassisted. She also leads the E8 with 20 points and she took the program's all-time points scoring record back from teammate
Louise Steele-Norton (Avondale, PA/Millbrook School). Mackey now has 139 career points, while Steele-Norton has 138.Â
Alaina Stojkovski (Liverpool, NY/Cicero-North Syracuse) netted the second Pioneer goal, off an assist from Dowling, in the 23
rd minute to put the Pioneers on top 2-0 in the first half. Stojkovski now has seven points this season on three goals and one assist.Â
Dowling started the second half scoring with her first of the season. Dowling became the first non-senior to score a goal this year for the Pioneers and she was assisted by Mackey.Â
Steele-Norton, a 2012 All-American, wrapped up the scoring on the afternoon with her fifth of the season. She is the College's all-time leader with 65 career goals.Â
The Pioneers outshot the visitors 25-5 on the afternoon and they also earned a 14-4 advantage in penalty corners. Geneseo goalie Dayna Mercer stopped 16 shots in net for the Knights.
The Pioneers are now 18-5 on their home turf in the last two years and they will return to Gaetano Stadium on Saturday for game three of a four game home stand as they continue Empire 8 Conference play against Elmira College (4 p.m.).Â
