UTICA, NY (January10, 2015) – The Utica College men and women swim and dive teams had their winning streaks snapped Saturday at home to Empire 8 rival Alfred University. Junior standout Raphael Warnon headed the men's squad with the Pioneers lone victory of the day and totaled 13 individual points while freshman
Phoebe King (New Bedford, MA/GNB Voc Tech) guided the women with seven points in her respective events.
The men lost 138-50 and drop to 5-4 on the season while the women were downed 141-57 and fall to 4-4. The Pioneers remain home, following a week off, as they host Nazareth and Cobleskill on Saturday January 24
th in a three way meet. The competition is set for 1 p.m. at the Utica College Pool.
Warnon took home another victory in the 100 yard backstroke clocking a time of 58.03, grabbing nine team points. He also placed third in the 200 yard free collecting three points with a watch of 1:58.64.
Freshman Aaron Gudrian and Leo Silverstein combined for 10 points (five each) in their four solo events. Gudrian finished third in the 100 yard butterfly (1:00.25) and fifth in the 200 individual medley (2:16.08) while Silverstein placed third in the 500 yard free (5:34.38) and fourth in the 50 yard free (24.99).
King led the women's squad with seven points, over two events, as she placed second in the 200 yard freestyle (2:09.48) and third in the 100 yard backstroke (1:10.55).
Mikey Maxwell (Newport, NY/West Canada) totaled six points in two individual events for UC as she took third place in both the 50 and 100 yard freestyle with times of 27.60 and 1:01.42.
King and Maxwell teamed up with
Alyson Baribault (Plantsville, CT/Southington) and
Grace Gallentine (Clifton Springs, NY/Midlakes) for a second place tally and four points in the 200 yard medley clocking a watch of 2:02.60, just under one second shy of the victory.
Baribault added three points in the 200 solo medley with a time of 2:29.85.
The Saxon men improve to 4-1 overall while the women move their overall record to 3-4. Alfred is back in the pool Friday when it travels to Syracuse, NY to face Le Moyne College at 12 p.m.
