NATIONALLY RANKED: Utica was ranked No. 10 in the latest d3hockey.com national poll, released Monday… This marks the first time this season that the Pioneers have cracked the top-ten… UC is one of three ECAC West Conference teams ranked in the poll, as Plattsburgh State and Elmira College are first and second, respectively.
WHERE WE SIT: The Pioneers are currently 5-4-2 overall and sit in fifth place in the ECAC West Conference standings with a 3-2-1 record in league play… 12 of Utica's 13 remaining games are conference contests… All four of UC's losses have come to teams ranked in the top-four nationally, including back-to-back 2-1 losses to No. 3 Norwich and No. 4 Middlebury.
LEADING THE WAY: Junior
Morgan Reed (Fort Myers, FL/Cushing Academy) leads the team in goals (nine), assists (seven), and points (16)… She is currently 12
th in the nation with 1.45 points per game and has totaled 14 points in the last eight games.
HELPING OUT: Louise Steele-Norton (Avondale, PA/Millbrook School) is second on the squad with six goals and 10 points… She has tallied at least one point in 7-of-9 games this season… Sophomore
Gabrielle Schnepp (Northville, MI/Belle Tire) ranks third on the Pioneers with eight points (three goals, five assists)… She is also tied for the national lead with two shorthanded goals.
GOIN NAMED GOALIE OF THE WEEK: Sophomore
Keira Goin (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Hotchkiss School) was named the ECAC West Goalie of the Week for the second time this season… Goin stopped 43-of-46 shots she faced last week... On Tuesday, she made 15 saves in a 3-1 win over SUNY Canton... She followed that up by turning away 28-of-30 shots in a 2-1 loss to #3 Norwich… Both goals she gave up to the Cadets were power play tallies... She holds a .908 save percentage and 2.34 goals against average on the season.
SCOUTING STEVENSON: The Mustangs are 11-6 and they are coming off a 6-1 win over Neumann on Tuesday… Stevenson has seven players who have at least 10 points on the season, including freshman Chelsea Blackburn who leads the team with 15 points (13 goals, two assists)… UC is 2-0 all-time against Stevenson… The teams did not meet last season, however the Pioneers swept the season series against the Mustangs in the 2012-13 season, winning 3-1 and 4-1.
LOOKING AHEAD: Next up, Utica will return to ECAC West action as it travels to Oswego State on Tuesday… Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m.
