UC S&D Welcomes Alfred on Saturday

UTICA, NY (January 7, 2015) – The Utica College women swim and dive teams return to action Saturday following a month long winter break hiatus … The Pioneers are set to host a three-match home stand beginning Saturday against Alfred University.

COMPETITION DETAILS: The match is set to start at 1 p.m. at the Utica College Pool … The pool features a 10-lane, 25-yard by 6-lane, 25-meter pool, 1-meter diving board, and balcony seating for 185.

UC WOMEN

The UC women swim and dive teams wrapped up 2014 winning three of its last four matches to conclude the first half of its season with a .500 record … The Pioneers only loss over the last two months came on the road against Skidmore College … The four early wins mark the best start in over a decade and tied the most wins in a season dating back to 2007-2008 when UC went 4-7 on the season.

Maxwell Does it All: Sophomore Mikey Maxwell (Newport, NY/West Canada) currently swims the 50 and 100 yard freestyles events while making up the dive team … Maxwell has racked up three victories including two in the 50 yard and one in the 100 yard while also placing second once and third twice in the 50 … She also had a hand in three relay victories … On the one-meter board, she has tallied 35 points in five events for the team.

Crown the King: Phoebe King (New Bedford, MA/GNB Voc Tech) leads the team in victories with an impressive nine solo wins over six different events ... She has four in the freestyle events, three in the backstroke, one in the 100 yard butterfly and one in the 200 yard medley … The first-year star also placed second three times to add to her team-best in points.

Baribault Racks Up Three: Alyson Baribault (Plantsville, CT/Southington) has three victories and six second place finishes … She won the 200 yard medley twice while touching the wall first in the 500 yard freestyle … Her second place tallies came in the 100 and 200 yard breaststroke, 200 fly, 400 medley, and 500 free.

Gallentine Tallies a Pair: Grace Gallentine (Clifton Springs, NY/Midlakes) has posted two wins in her freshman campaign as she was victorious in the 50 and 500 freestyle events … She also has placed second twice in the 100 yard freestyle and once in the 50 free.

SCOUTING THE SAXONS: The Alfred women have won two-of-three after opening up the season with three straight losses … Their victories have come in convincing fashion over Mansfield and Pitt-Bradford … AU is 1-1 on the road this season.

BACK IN THE POOL: The Pioneers will have a week off following this weekend's match and return to action Saturday Jan. 24th when they welcome SUNY Cobleskill and Nazareth College to UC Pool for a three-way meet … The competition is set to begin at 1 p.m. … The Golden Flyers swept the Pioneer women last season, convincingly.
