UTICA, NY – The Utica College men's and women's swim team are set to open up the its 2015-2016 season this Saturday in Oneonta, NY at the Hartwick College Quad Meet … The competition is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m. at the Moyer Pool
Season Opener Details: The Hartwick College Quad Meet will feature host Hartwick, Cazenovia College, the College of Saint Rose and Utica College … The Pioneers will square off against all three opponents throughout the competition.
Taking A Look At The Pioneers: The women's team is bringing back 10 swimmers from last year while bringing in nine newcomers ... The team added six freshmen, two sophomores, and one junior this year .... The men's team is bringing back five swimmers, and has added six new members ... The team added two freshmen, a sophomore, two juniors, and a senior this year.
Last Time at "Wick's" Quad Meet: Last season at Hartwick's Quad Meet, both the Pioneer men and women defeated Cazenovia however lost to Wick and St. Rose … The men were guided by Raphael Warnon and Tyler Good while the women were paced by
Alyson Baribault (Plantsville, CT/Southington),
Mikey Maxwell (Newport, NY/West Canada) and
Phoebe King (New Bedford, MA/GNB Voc Tech).
Baribault, Maxwell & King Ready to Roll: Alyson Baribault (Plantsville, CT/Southington),
Mikey Maxwell (Newport, NY/West Canada) and
Phoebe King (New Bedford, MA/GNB Voc Tech) look to continue their momentum into this season as the trio were Utica's leaders in most events throughout the year… Last season at Hartwick, Baribault placed third in the 100 yard breast stroke (1:13.70) and also added a fourth place finish in the 200 yard breaststroke (2:43.86) in her first collegiate meet ... Maxwell chipped in with a fifth place finish in the 50 yard freestyle (26.96), out of 15 competitors, and also tallied third place in the one-meter dive (119.30) … King took home third place in the 100 yard freestyle with a time of 56.35.
Warnon & Good Making Waves: Senior Raphael Warnon and junior Tyler Good look to step up and lead the way for the men Pioneers this season as both were two of UC's most consistent swimmers last season … At the Wick Quad Meet last season, Warnon placed sixth in the 100 yard butterfly after touching the final wall in a time of 57.71 while Good placed fifth in the 200 yard freestyle with a time of 1:59.65 … Warnon broke school-records in the 200 yard individual medley and the 200 yard backstroke at last year's championships … He led the men's squad throughout the regular season with 15 wins while accounting for over 130 points.
The "Wick" Report: The Hawks competed in the Hartwick Relay Meet on Saturday … The men's team placed second while the women placed third, both out of a six team field.
Taking a Look at "Caz": The Wildcats competed this past Saturday against Marywood … The men's team did not keep score because they didn't have enough competitors while the women's team (0-2) was defeated 144-88.
Scouting St. Rose: The Golden Knights competed in the Hartwick Relay Meet on Saturday. The men's team placed third out of six teams while the women placed first out of six teams.
Looking Ahead: The women's swim and dive team are back in action at home against William Smith College on Saturday October 31, at 1 p.m. Both men and women swim and dive teams are back in action on Saturday November 7, as they host Bard and Wells. The meet is scheduled for 1 p.m.
