Men's Lacrosse Hosts Potsdam on Saturday at 3 p.m.

UTICA, NY— The Utica College men's lacrosse team will host SUNY Potsdam in non-conference action Saturday.  Face-off is set for 3 p.m. at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.

UC SO FAR: Utica currently holds a 1-2 overall record headed into Saturday's contest … UC's lone win of the season came against SUNY Polytechnic … The Pioneers two losses came against formidable competition in St. Lawrence and Hamilton College … Both St. Lawrence and Hamilton were receiving votes in the USILA National Poll at the time of their victories over Utica.

IMPACT PLAYERS: So far this season, UC has had nine players contribute at least one goal and 14 players have picked up at least one point… Ryan Desveaux (Bowmanville, ONT/St. Stephen Catholic) has paced the Pioneer offense and leads the team with seven goals… Tom Byrne (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) leads UC in groundballs, collecting 16, and he has also chipped in with two goals…. Zack Stevenson (Elbridge, NY/Jordan-Elbridge) will look to control the face-off circle as he has collected a .521 win percentage so far this season… Stevenson has also chipped in with two goals and two assists for the Pioneers this season.

LENDING A HELPING HAND: Alex Finnegan (Bay Shore, NY/Islip) leads UC and is tied for third in the Empire 8 Conference with an average of 1.33 assists per game … He has posted two assists in each of his last two outings … His four assists this season are a new career-high for the junior attacker.

THREE IS THE MAGIC #: Utica has held its opponents to a total of three goals in the third quarter through three games this season.

LAST TIME OUT: The Pioneers are coming off of a tough loss to Hamilton College in the fifth annual Contineer Cup at Gaetano Stadium on Wednesday afternoon… Hamilton used a late surge, including six fourth quarter goals, to top UC 11-6… Matthew Miller (Geneva, NY/Geneva) led the way for Utica offensively as he pumped in two goals… Liam Wheatley (Rochester, NY/Webster Schroeder) contributed a career-high three points on one goal and two assists… Tom Byrne (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster), Patrick Mulligan (Commack, NY/Commack), and Zack Stevenson (Elbridge, NY/Jordan-Elbridge) all scored once for UC and senior goalie Andrew DiOrio (Greenlawn, NY/CW Post) stopped 10 shots.

HISTORY: UC looks to buck a recent trend as they have dropped four straight games to Potsdam in the last four years … Two of those games were decided by just one goal.

A QUICK LOOK AT THE RECORD BOOK: Goalie Andrew DiOrio (Greenlawn, NY/CW Post) has collected 21 saves this season putting his career total at 235… He needs two more saves to surpass Utica's Joe Davis for sole possession of fourth all-time in school-history… Tom Byrne (Lancaster, NY/Lancaster) has pushed his career groundball total to 196… He is currently ranked sixth in school history and will be looking to become the sixth player in program-history to collect at least 200 groundballs.

MEET THE BEARS: SUNY Potsdam is currently 0-1 on the young 2015 season… They dropped their only contest 13-12 in a road loss against Albright College…They currently have four players on their roster with at least two goals… Last season Potsdam topped UC 11-8 and had an overall record of 10-6, including a 4-2 record in the SUNYAC Conference.

LOOKING AHEAD: Following Saturday's home contest against SUNY Potsdam, the Pioneers will hit the road for two consecutive games … They will first head to Morrisville State to take on the Mustangs in non-conference action on Wednesday … They will then head to Oneonta on Saturday to kick-off the Empire 8 schedule as they take on Hartwick College.
