Utica, NY -- The UC women's soccer team will play their final road game of the regular season against the Houghton Highlanders this Saturday. Game time is scheduled for 1 p.m.
Last Time Out: The Pioneers lost to Hartwick in their last game 4-0. Sophomore
Jenna Mazza (Frankfort, NY/Sauquoit Valley) had four shots on goal throughout the game. Freshman goalkeeper
Allison Wagner (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy), made 11 saves on the day. This marks the eighth game so far this season in which Wagner was able to record double digit saves. This Pioneers are now 2-12 overall with a 1-5 record in Empire 8 play.
Leading the Way: Senior
Ciara McIlvenny (Pleasant Valley, NY/Arlington) and sophomore
Jenna Mazza (Frankfort, NY/Sauquoit Valley) are tied for a team high of four goals so far this season. Junior
Keri Berkowitz (Racine, WI/Racine Saint Catherine's) leads the team in assists with six. Berkowitz is ranked fifth in the Empire 8 Conference in assists per game (Avg/G .462).
Blocking the Way:
Allison Wagner (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) is in control at the goalie position. She once again leads the Empire 8 Conference in saves per game (Avg/G 9.00). Wagner has a total of 119 saves this season. Her performances have earned her a goals against average of 3.70 and a .763 save percentage.
Scouting Houghton: The Highlanders are 8-5-2 overall and are 3-3 in the Empire 8 Conference. Houghton has won three straight games after defeating Alfred State College 1-0 last Wednesday. Junior Nikki Garns leads the team in goals scored this year with seven and also leads the team in assists with four. On the defensive side, freshman goalkeeper Rachael Fortney has tallied 53 saves this season. She has earned a goals against average of 1.34 and a .828 save percentage.
Against the Highlanders: The Pioneers are 0-4 all time against Houghton College. In last years meeting between these two teams Houghton won 3-0.
Jamie Enders (Cazenovia, NY/Cazenovia) was able to make 13 saves in goal during their last matchup. Utica is looking to record its first win over Houghton in program history.
Looking Ahead: The Pioneers will return to action on October 29
th. Utica will play their game of the regular season at home against Alfred University. The game is scheduled to start at 1 p.m. at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.
