Utica, NY – The Utica College swim and dive team will compete in its first home meet of the year on Friday. The Pioneers will face off against Cazenovia College, beginning at 5 p.m. The events to be held at the meet can be found listed below.
Last Time Out: In UC's last meet, the men's team was defeated 170-119, in the matchup against Skidmore College (11/19/16). Chris Halsey placed first in three events at the meet in the 500-yard freestyle (5:08.01), 1,000-yard freestyle (10:34.26) and the 400-yard IM (4:41.11). Tim Tellekamp also earned three first place finishes in the 50-yard (23.00), 100-yard (49.39), and 200-yard freestyle (1:48.28) events.
The women's team fell to Skidmore as well, 160-123. Freshman
Julia Lamb (Mexico, NY/Mexico) placed first in three events at the meet. Lamb earned individual victories in the 500-yard (5:44.76) and 1,000-yard freestyle (11:25.88).
Alyson Baribault (Plantsville, CT/Southington),
Grace Gallentine (Clifton Springs, NY/Midlakes), and
Phoebe King (New Bedford, MA/GNB Voc Tech) joined Lamb to finish first with a time of 1:47.71 in the 200-yard freestyle relay. King came in first individually in the 200-yard freestyle (2:06.61) event as well.
Scouting Cazenovia: In their last meet, Cazenovia's men's team faced off against Gallaudet University. Gallaudet earned the victory with a score of 97-41. Josh Kullman earned the only two first place finishes for Cazenovia. He placed first in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:45.87) and the 100-yard breaststroke (1:12.45).
The women's team faced both Gallaudet University and Cedar Crest College. They defeated Gallaudet, 149-55, and Cedar Crest, 119-86. Mackenzy Nutter finished first in both the 500-yard (6:05.33) and 1,000-yard (12:28.74) freestyle events. Sarah Stevens placed first in the 100-yard butterfly (1:10.89) and Morgan Way won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 1:02.47 individually. Way and Stevens were joined by teammates, Jenni Uplinger and Ashley Myers, to place first in the 400-yard freestyle relay (4:34.05).
Against Cazenovia: This will be the third time this season that the Pioneers have matched up with Cazenovia. The men and women earned victories in both previous meetings. In the last meet between these two teams (11/11/16), the men won 152-23 and the women won 129-102. Tim Tellekamp led the way for the men's team with first place finishes in the 200-yard IM (2:06.82) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:09.43).
Phoebe King (New Bedford, MA/GNB Voc Tech) was the top performer for the women's squad as she earned three first place finishes at the meet. Individually, King won the 50-yard freestyle (27.08) and the 200-yard backstroke (2:26.96). In the 400-yard medley relay,
Emily Medley (Watertown, NY/Watertown),
Alyson Baribault (Plantsville, CT/Southington), and
Daniela Hannah (Dalton, GA/Northwest Whitfield) joined King to earn first place (4:31.63).
Looking Ahead: The Pioneers will be back in the water on January 13
th, 2017 to host Alfred University and Wells College. The meet is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
