UTICA, NY -- Senior left tackle
Robert Pontbriand (Yorktown Heights, NY/Somers) and senior linebacker
Juwan Wilson (South Ozone Park, NY/Holy Cross) have both earned spots on the ECAC's 2016 Division III North Football All-Star Team. Wilson was placed on the first team defense, while Pontbriand was placed on the second team offense.
Pontbriand made his second straight appearance on an all-conference team for Utica after earning honorable mention in 2015. He helped Utica running back
Ryan Burnett (Mount Vernon, NY/Arch Bishop Stepinac) set a new school-record this past season for both single season (995) and career (1,876) rushing yards. He also protected senior quarterback
Teddy VanGalen (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) who will graduate ranked second on the College's all-time list in career passing yards (5465), completions (447) and TD passes (30). Pontbriand and the UC offense recorded 4,168 yards of total offense this year, which ranks second on the College's all-time single-season list.
Wilson made his second straight appearance on the all-conference first team and will graduate ranked second on the College's all-time list with 339 total career tackles. He is ranked ninth on the College's single-season list after recording 103 tackles this season. Wilson finished the season tied for sixth in the Empire 8, with an average of 9.4 tackles per game. Wilson also added 3.5 sacks, two interceptions and two pass breakups on the year. His 10.5 tackles for a loss this season was the second most on the team.
The Pioneers, who matched a program-best record of 7-4 overall, made their second ECAC Bowl game appearance in the last three years. Utica has now won at least five games in five of its last seven seasons.
