Women's Swim & Dive Ready for Weekend Set

Utica, NY – The Utica College women's swim and dive team has double the action this weekend, as it competes at Hamilton College on Friday and is back home to face Skidmore on Saturday. The Hamilton meet is scheduled to kick-off at 5 p.m., while UC's home meet against Skidmore is set to begin at 1 p.m.

Last Time Out: The Pioneers hosted Herkimer County Community College (HCCC) and Cazenovia in their last meet. UC defeated HCCC, 157-33, and Cazenovia with a score of 124-95. Grace Gallentine (Clifton Springs, NY/Midlakes) placed first in both the 50-yard and 100-yard freestyle events on the day. Both the 200-yard medley relay team and the 200-yard freestyle relay team ended up placing first in their respective events. Kelcey Madigan (Waverly, NY/Waverly) earned first place in the 200-yard IM, while Rebecca Merrill (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford) was the top finisher in the 200-yard butterfly event.

King Claiming The Throne: In the first four meets of the 2017-18 season, Phoebe King (New Bedford, MA/GNB Voc Tech) has consistently produced top-notch results. So far she has already accumulated nine total first place finishes. In the team's last meet against HCCC and Cazenovia, King placed first in the 200-yard and 500-yard freestyle events. She was also on the 200-yard medley relay team that recorded a time of 2:02.15, which was good for first place. King has had an impressive series of first place finishes early on in the season and will look to continue her strong start into the meet against Hamilton.

Hamilton: Friday's meet will mark the first competition of the season for the Continentals. It will be the first time in ten years that the Pioneers have competed against Hamilton College. Last season Hamilton finished in ninth place as a team in the NESCAC Championships, hosted by Bowdoin College, in the field of 12 competing schools.

Skidmore: The Thoroughbreds have competed in four dual meets to start off the season. The team most recently lost to both Union College (121-110) and Vassar (165-127). In the meet against Vassar College, Skidmore earned first place in both the 1-Meter and 3-Meter diving events. Jazmin Rendon, Olivia Frechette, and Olivia Czelusniak all won events individually at the Vassar meet. Last year when the Pioneers faced Skidmore, they lost by a score of 160-123.

Looking Ahead: This weekend's pair of meets will be the last for a while, as UC won't be competing again until January 12th, 2018. The team will be on the road to face Alfred University, beginning at 1:30 p.m.
