The Utica College men and women's swim and dive team will be on the road for their next meet against Clarkson University on Saturday … Competition is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
Men's Last Matchup: The Utica College men's swim and dive team defeated St. Lawrence University at home with a score of 164-118 in its last meet … Daniel Angotti, Chris Deyette, Aaron Gudrian, and TJ Tellekamp earned first place in the 400-yard medley relay event, setting a new pool record time of 3:48.23… Tellekamp earned first place in three events individually on the day... He won the 200-yard freestyle (1:49.38), 50-yard freestyle (23.18), and the 100-yard freestyle (50.03)... Angotti also did well individually finishing first in the 100-yard backstroke (58.25) and in the 200-yard backstroke (2:09.13)... Deyette earned three first place finishes individually as well in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:04.55), 200-yard breaststroke (2:22.50), and 200-yard IM (2:10.71)… Gudrian was able to place first individually in the 200-yard butterfly event with a time of 2:11.28.
Men's Diver: Freshman Matt Patton is the only diver on the Utica College team … Patton has five victories in his first season at UC, when competing against other divers ...
Men's Success: The men's swim and dive team has already surpassed its win total from last season with a 7-5 record after the victory over St. Lawrence University … The seventh win gives the Pioneers the most victories in a single season over the past ten years … UC has been riding a hot streak, winning three out of their last five matchups.
Women's Last Matchup: The Utica College women's swim and dive team lost to St. Lawrence University at the last meet, 137-112 ...
Grace Gallentine (Clifton Springs, NY/Midlakes),
Emily Medley (Watertown, NY/Watertown),
Alyson Baribault (Plantsville, CT/Southington), and
Phoebe King (New Bedford, MA/GNB Voc Tech) finished first in the 400-yard freestyle relay with a time of 3:59.61 ... King came in first place individually in the 200-yard freestyle event, finishing in 2:05.23 ... Baribault finished with a time of 1:14.46, on her way to first place in the 100-yard breaststroke event …
Daniela Hannah (Dalton, GA/Northwest Whitfield),
Rebecca Merrill (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford), and
Domenica Risucci (Utica, NY/Whitesboro) finished first/second/third to earn UC a clean sweep in the 200-yard IM ... The three combined to earn all 16 points available from the event.
Women's Success: With a 6-7 record so far this season, the Pioneers have already tallied their most victories over the last 10 years … The women also went on a strong stretch, winning four out of five meets in the latter half of the fall semester to propel them to this achievement.
Scouting Clarkson University: The men's swim and dive team from Clarkson has an undefeated record in dual meets this season … Only multi-school meets resulted in the team not coming away with a first place finish ... Last time out, they defeated SUNY Potsdam 217-77 … Five different male swimmers won two events for the Knights against the Bears.
The women's team has a record of 1-3 in dual meets this season ... Their last time out they also defeated SUNY Potsdam, 155-134 ... The team of Lauren Grasberger, Kayla Weckesser, Brooke Atkinson and Sarah Halstead combined for a time of 1:59.54, winning by 4.4 seconds in the 200 meter medley relay.
Looking Ahead: The Pioneers will return to action on February 15
th, for the UNYSCSA Championships hosted by Ithaca College.
