UTICA, NY- The Utica College women's hockey team wraps up the regular season this weekend with a home-and-home series against SUNY Cortland. The teams will meet in Utica on Friday at 3 p.m. before wrapping up the weekend in Cortland on Saturday at 2 p.m.
LAST TIME OUT: The Pioneers are coming off a 3-1 win over SUNY Potsdam on Tuesday… Three different players scored for Utica, including
Meghan Power (Windsor, Ontario/Southwest Wildcats),
Kaitlin Parent (Myersville, MD/Middletown), and
Gabrielle Schnepp (Northville, MI/Belle Tire)…
Olivia Hirschy (Fort Wayne, IN/Culver Academies),
Kayla Dion (Colchester, VT/Boston Shamrocks ),
Taylor Osowski (Highlands Ranch, CO/Colorado Selects),
Elizabeth Dohner (Highlands Ranch, CO/Colorado Selects), and
Taylor Dion (Colchester, VT/Boston Shamrocks) each had one assist… Senior
Keira Goin (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Hotchkiss School) made 20 saves in the win.
HEATING UP: The Pioneers have now won their last five games and are 5-1-1 in their last seven… UC needs just one more win to reach the 15-win mark for the fourth time in the last five years.
CONFERENCE STANDINGS: With the two wins last weekend, the Pioneers have clinched a spot in the ECAC West Conference tournament for the 15th time in their 16-year program history… UC is currently fifth in the conference standings ... If the Pioneers win both games this weekend, they have a chance to host an ECAC West tournament quarterfinal game next Thursday.
HOME ICE ADVANTAGE: The Pioneers are 6-0-1 at home this year… Utica has outscored opponents 23-9 on its home ice this year… The team's last home loss came on February 20 last year as it fell 2-1 to Buffalo State… UC has never finished a season undefeated at home… The best record the Pioneers have had at home was the 2006-07 team that went 11-1 at the Aud.
GOIN GRABS ANOTHER RECORD: Senior
Keira Goin (Dobbs Ferry, NY/Hotchkiss School) continues to improve upon her record for career wins… She now has 37 wins in her four years as a Pioneer… Goin also owns the career shutout record (12) and single-season shutout record (seven)… On the season, she boasts a 1.52 goals against average and a .938 save percentage.
PAGANO NAMED TO NATIONAL TEAM OF THE WEEK: Senior
Jane Pagano (Erie, PA/Tabor Academy) was named to the D3hockey.com National Team of the Week, Wednesday after totaling four points in a pair of wins over Neumann last weekend… On Friday, she had two goals, including a short-handed game-winner and assisted on an insurance tally as the Pioneers defeated the Knights 4-1. She followed that up with the eventual game-winner in Saturday's 5-2 victory.
THE POWER OF ONE: Senior
Gabrielle Schnepp (Northville, MI/Belle Tire) needs just one point to move into sole possession of fourth place on the College's career scoring list… She currently has 111 points (42 goals, 69 assists) in 105 games… She also needs one more assist to move into third on the career assists list… On the season, Schnepp leads the team in points (24) and assists (18)… She has scored ten points (four goals, six assists) in her last seven games.
BANNER YEAR: Apart from Pagano, six other players are in the midst of their best seasons… Sophomore
Elizabeth Dohner (Highlands Ranch, CO/Colorado Selects) is third on the team with a career-best 17 points… She has tallied six goals and 11 assists this season, both of which are personal bests… Senior
Emily Coope (Phoenix, AZ/Colorado Tigers) has a career-high 16 points this year… She needs one more goal to tie her career-best of eight, which she achieved last season… Sophomore
Kayla Dion (Colchester, VT/Boston Shamrocks ) has a career-high four goals and ten assists for 14 points… Junior
Taylor Osowski (Highlands Ranch, CO/Colorado Selects) is second on the squad with eight goals this season, marking her best output as a Pioneer… Sophomore
Jennifer Liu (North Saanich, British Columbia/Shaftesbury Titans ) is also having her best season, as she has three goals, all of which were game-winners, and four assists… Junior
Meghan Power (Windsor, Ontario/Southwest Wildcats) has matched her career-high of 16 points, which she accomplished her freshman year at Neumann University… On the season, she has four goals and a career-best 12 assists.
SCOUTING CORTLAND: The Red Dragons are 3-19-1 overall and 2-13-1 in the conference… They are coming off a split with Chatham University last weekend, taking the first game 3-2 and falling 4-2 on day two… Cortland is led by freshman Miranda Kolb, who has five goals and five assists.
AGAINST THE RED DRAGONS: Utica is 12-0-1 against Cortland in the last five seasons, with five shutout wins… Last year, UC topped Cortland 3-0 and 1-0 in the regular season and then came away with a 5-0 win over the Red Dragons in the ECAC West Conference quarterfinal.
LOOKING AHEAD: The Pioneers will wait to see what the final seeds are for the conference tournament, which will determine whom and where they will play on Thursday, Feb. 23 in the conference quarterfinal.
