Utica, NY – The Utica College men and women's swim and dive team is heading to Cazenovia to face the Wildcats in some dual meet action this Friday. The meet is scheduled to begin at 5 p.m.
Women's Recap: At the dual meet against Skidmore College the women's team also fell, by a score of 152-87. Junior
Daniela Hannah (Dalton, GA/Northwest Whitfield) finished with a time of 6:00.54 to come in first place in the 500-yard freestyle. She also was second in the 200-yard freestyle event, trailing the leader by .12 seconds, clocking in at 2:11.43. Hannah teamed up with
Lara McNamara (Yonkers, NY/Maria Regina),
Ashley Flint (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) and Emily Czerwonkto win the 200-yard freestyle relay. Freshman
Emma Ormsby (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam) took first individually at the meet, as she won the 200-yard backstroke.
Men's Recap: The men's team lost its last dual meet, 143-84, against Skidmore College on the road last Saturday (Nov. 17). Senior TJ Tellekamp broke the school record in the 50-yard freestyle event with a first place time of 21.86. He also placed first in the 100-yard freestyle and 100-yard butterfly events. Michael Leyburn, Jackson Sorbello, and Coleman Barry teamed up with Tellekamp in the 200-yard medley relay for second place. Junior diver Matt Patton won first place in the 1-meter diving event and teammate Coleman Barry won the 400-yard IM event.
Hannah Stepping Up: Junior
Daniela Hannah (Dalton, GA/Northwest Whitfield) has been swimming strong for the Pioneers this season. She has helped secure team points for Utica in a variety of different events. Hannah has recorded first place finishes in 200-yard freestyle, 500-yard freestyle, 100-yard backstroke, 200-yard medley relay, and the 200-yard freestyle relay.
Tellekamp's Tear: TJ Tellekamp has found success consistently throughout his senior campaign thus far. In the 50-yard freestyle and the 100-yard free style events, Tellekamp has placed first at each of the last three meets. He has also scored points for UC this season with top place finishes in the 100-butterfly and in relay events.
Scouting Cazenovia: The men's swim and dive team has only outscored two opponents this season, after competing against six schools thus far. The Wildcats last competed against Utica, Roberts Wesleyan, and HCCC at the Utica College Quad Meet earlier in November. The team was able to squeeze by and outscore HCCC 47-27, but was outclassed in the final standings by UC and Roberts.
The women's team has found a higher rate of success, as it earned a clean sweep over the competition at the Cazenovia Invitational on November 3
rd. Cazenovia earned a total of 236 points to come away victorious over HCCC, SUNY Delhi, and Gallaudet. The squad was able to finish ahead of HCCC once again at the Utica College Quad Meet.
Looking Ahead: The Pioneers have an extended rest period now before returning home on Friday, January 11
th to host Alfred University. The dual meet is scheduled to start at 1:30 p.m.
