Women's Hockey Hosts Kings in Regular Season Finale

UTICA, NY- The Utica College women's hockey team wraps up the regular season this weekend as it hosts conference foe, Kings College for a UCHC series.  Game time is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. on both Friday and Saturday.

LAST TIME OUT: The Pioneers are coming off a weekend sweep of Lebanon Valley College, winning 6-0 and 7-0… Olivia Hirschy (Fort Wayne, IN/Culver Academies) led the way with five points (three goals, two assists), while Rebecca Brown (Steamboat Springs, CO/Norwich University) (one goal, three assists), Lexi Stanisewski (Lawrence, MA/Boston Shamrocks) (one goal, three assists), and Veronique Lortie (Chambly, Quebec/Berkshire School) (two goals, two assists) each had four points on the weekend… Carlie Smith (Grimsby, Ontario/St. Catharine's Chaos), Taylor Osowski (Highlands Ranch, CO/Colorado Selects), Elizabeth Dohner (Highlands Ranch, CO/Colorado Selects), and Jennifer Arts (Lakeside, Ontario/London Devilettes) also scored… Gabrielle Igo (Phoenix, AZ/Northern Cyclones) and Kayla Rios (Dexter, NY/Northern Cyclones) each picked up shutouts on the weekend.

GOLD RIBBON JERSEY BIDDING ENDS THIS WEEKEND: Do not miss out on your chance to own a special edition UC hockey jersey… All season long the Pioneers have worn special edition uniforms that feature a gold ribbon – the color of childhood cancer awareness – to promote awareness of the disease and show support for all those who have fought or are currently fighting cancer… The jerseys are currently being auctioned off online (HERE) and bidding can be done in person at one of the two remaining regular season home games… Bidding will conclude at the end of Utica's game against Kings College this Saturday… All money raised from Utica's annual Gold Ribbon game and through the jersey auction will be donated to the family of a local child who is battling cancer… The Pioneers have raised over $22,000 for the cause over the last five years.

PLAYOFF PICTURE: With the sweep last weekend, Utica jumped Manhattanville to move into the fifth spot in the UCHC Conference standings… The Pioneers have clinched a post-season appearance for the 16th time in the program's 17-year history… If Utica sweeps this weekend and Neumann loses both games to Elmira, the Pioneers will lock up a home game in the UCHC Conference quarterfinals next weekend.

CLAUSEN CLOSING IN ON MILESTONE: Head Coach Dave Clausen needs just one more win to reach 250 wins for his career… Clausen, who is the only coach in program history, has won at least 10 games in all 17 seasons at the helm… He also has just two seasons below .500, and has led Utica to 16 playoff appearances during his tenure.

SENIOR DAY: On Saturday, the Pioneers will honor their nine seniors who are playing in their final regular season home games… This group has totaled 59 wins in their careers and four straight post-season appearances.

LEADING THE WAY: Sophomore Rebecca Brown (Steamboat Springs, CO/Norwich University) leads the team with 13 assists and 19 points… She is also tied for third on the squad with six goals… 14 of her 19 points (four goals, ten assists) have come in UCHC play.

HELPING OUT: Junior Elizabeth Dohner (Highlands Ranch, CO/Colorado Selects) is second on the squad with 17 points… She is tied for second on the team with 11 assists and she is tied for third in goals (six)… Dohner needs four more points to match her career-high of 21, which she accumulated last season.

EIGHT IS GREAT: Senior Taylor Osowski (Highlands Ranch, CO/Colorado Selects) and sophomore Olivia Hirschy (Fort Wayne, IN/Culver Academies) are tied for the team-lead with eight goals apiece… Osowski, who led the team in goal scoring last year, has totaled seven points (six goals, one assist) in her last seven games… Hirschy had a huge weekend last weekend with three goals and two assists… She has scored seven of her eight goals against UCHC opponents.

SAVING THE BEST FOR LAST: Seniors Carlie Smith (Grimsby, Ontario/St. Catharine's Chaos), Jennifer Arts (Lakeside, Ontario/London Devilettes), and Veronique Lortie (Chambly, Quebec/Berkshire School) have put up their best numbers of their careers so far in their final year in the orange and blue… Smith is tied for third on the team with 14 points (six goals, eight assists)… Lortie has scored a career-best five goals and added eight assists for 13 points… Arts has had a break out year, netting a career-high four goals and six assists… Both Smith and Lortie are tied with Taylor Osowski (Highlands Ranch, CO/Colorado Selects) for the active lead with 105 career games played.

SCOUTING KINGS: The Monarchs are in their inaugural season as a Division III varsity program and they are still looking for their first win of the season… Freshman Josée Aitken leads the team with seven goals and ten points… This will be the first ever meeting between the two teams.
