Utica, NY – The Utica College men and women's swim and dive team hosted Alfred University on Friday afternoon for a dual meet. The visiting Saxons defeated UC by scores of 166-53 for the men and 135-74 for the women.
Daniela Hannah (Dalton, GA/Northwest Whitfield) earned wins in two events at the meet, placing first in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:21.40) and 500-yard freestyle (6:01.92). She also came in third place with a time of 12:29.52 during the 1,000-yard freestyle race, helping to score a total of 21 points for the Pioneers.
Coleman Barry won the 500-yard freestyle event with a time of 5:35.79, while also finishing third in the 1,000-yard freestyle. The freshman was also a part of Utica's 200-yard medley relay team that swam a time of 1:48.59 to come in second.
Rebecca Merrill (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford) and TJ Tellekamp each recorded a first place finish as well on the day. Merrill earned the top spot in the 100-yard butterfly and added second place in the 200-yard IM to her performance at the meet. Tellekamp clocked in at 22.58 during his win in the 50-yard freestyle.
Diver Matt Patton posted a score of 225.97 in the 1-meter diving event to secure second place in the first set of dives. He then recorded another second place finish in set two of the diving competition with a score of 396.89. In the 100-yard freestyle event, Jake DeMarco swam a first place time of 52.68.
Ashley Flint (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) placed third in the 50-yard freestyle (29.79), while teammate
Kelly Waryncia (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) earned third in the 200-yard IM (2:40.27) and the 100-yard butterfly (1:16.34).
The Pioneers are back in their home pool once again next week, as they welcome Nazareth College for a dual meet. Competition that Saturday is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
