Women's Hockey Set for Showdown at Naz

UTICA, NY- The Utica College women's hockey team remains on the road this weekend as it travels to UCHC newcomer, Nazareth College.  Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Friday and 2 p.m. on Saturday. 
 
LAST TIME OUT: The Pioneers are coming off a sweep at Lebanon Valley College last weekend, downing the Dutchmen 7-0 and 5-0… Danielle Haasbeek (Grand Forks, ND/Balmoral Hall) had four assists in Utica's win on Friday… Olivia Hirschy (Fort Wayne, IN/Culver Academies) totaled three goals and one assist on the weekend, while Rebecca Brown (Steamboat Springs, CO/Norwich University) had two goals and two assists… Goalies Bria Reilly (Hamden, CT/Brewster Academy) and Ryann Stripp (Holland Patent, NY/Clinton Warriors) each picked up a shutout.
 
GAINING NATIONAL ATTENTION: The Pioneers picked up votes in both the USCHO.com and D3hockey.com national polls this week… This marks the first time this season that Utica has received votes in both polls. 
 
WHERE WE SIT: The Pioneers are currently second in the UCHC conference standings with a 9-1 mark in league play… UC is two points behind conference frontrunner, William Smith, and two points ahead of nationally ranked No. 1 Elmira College… Utica has eight conference games remaining as it pushes to lock up a postseason appearance for the 17th time in the program's 18-year history.
 
FINISHING STRONG: Utica continued its third period dominance last weekend with five third period goals in the series… The Pioneers have now outscored opponents 25-1 in the third period this year… The lone goal Utica has given up in the third came in its season-opener against Becker College on Oct. 27.
 
NO SOPHOMORE SLUMP: Sophomore Lexi Stanisewski (Lawrence, MA/Boston Shamrocks) leads the team with 18 points and 11 assists… The reigning UCHC All-Rookie team selection has set a new career-high in goals (seven), assists, and points this season… Utica is 10-2 on the year when Stanisewski scores at least one point.
 
BET ON BROWN: Junior Rebecca Brown (Steamboat Springs, CO/Norwich University) is second on the squad with 16 points and her eight goals this season are tied for first on the team…Brown has scored 11 points (five goals, six assists) in ten conference games this season.
 
FRESHMAN PHENOM: Freshman Georgiana Santullo (Woburn, MA/Boston Shamrocks/Woburn High School) has made an instant impact for the Pioneers this season… Santullo is fourth on the team with 14 points (six goals, eight assists)… She ranks 11th nationally in freshman scoring with .93 points per game… Santullo has also been Utica's best player at the faceoff dot, winning 79.6 percent of her draws. 
 
BEST ONE YET: Senior Taylor Dion (Colchester, VT/Boston Shamrocks) and junior Kyra Borsoi (Brossard, Quebec/Holderness) are in the midst of the best seasons in their careers… Dion has set a new career high for goals (five), assists (six), and points (11)… Borsoi has also set a new career mark with two goals and nine assists for 11 points.
 
WINNER, WINNER, CHICKEN DINNER: Junior Olivia Hirschy (Fort Wayne, IN/Culver Academies) is tied for the team lead with eight goals… Four of her eight goals have been game-winners and she is currently tied for first in the nation in game-winning goals this season.
 
RELY ON REILLY: Junior Bria Reilly (Hamden, CT/Brewster Academy) ranks ninth nationally with a 1.20 goals against average and she is tied for fifth in the country with four shutouts… Reilly also boasts an impressive .936 save percentage and a 9-2 record on the year.
 
SCOUTING NAZARETH: The Golden Flyers, who are in their first year of varsity competition, are 11-3-1 overall and 7-3 in the UCHC… They are coming off a split against Neumann last weekend… Nazareth has nine players with at least 10 points on the season, led by freshman Hailey Redders, who has 23 points (10 goals, 13 assists) in 15 games… This will be the first ever meeting between Utica and Nazareth.
 
LOOKING AHEAD: The Pioneers return home next weekend for a series against Stevenson University… Game time is scheduled for 3 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
