Swim & Dive Closes out Regular Season at Clarkson

UTICA, NY – The Utica College men and women's swim and dive team is heading to Potsdam, NY this Saturday to face Clarkson University for the last dual meet of the season. Competition is scheduled to begin at 1 p.m.
 
Last Time Out: The Pioneers hosted St. Lawrence University last Saturday in their previous meet. The men's team came away with a, 96-77, victory, while the women's team lost, 74-97, to the visiting Saints.
 
Freestyle: Freshman Coleman Barry was uncontested in the 1000-yard freestyle, swimming a time of 11:14.57 and scoring nine points for UC in the event. TJ Tellekamp won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.24. On the women's side, junior Daniela Hannah (Dalton, GA/Northwest Whitfield) was awarded first in the 500-yard freestyle and second in the 200-yard freestyle, earning 13 points for the team.
 
Relay Teams: The men's 200-yard medley relay team of Tellekamp, Jake DeMarco, Jackson Sorbello, and Michael Leyburn was awarded first after being uncontested in the event. In the 200-yard freestyle relay, Garrett Bortiatynski, Matt Patton, Sean Neary and Coleman Barry swam alone in the race. The women's 200-yard freestyle relay squad, consisting of Emily Czerwonka (Souderton, PA/Souderton Area), Emma Ormsby (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam), Lara McNamara (Yonkers, NY/Maria Regina) and Daniela Hannah (Dalton, GA/Northwest Whitfield), placed first with a time of 1:57.82.
 
Butterfly, Back, & Breaststroke: Freshmen Kelly Waryncia (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) and Emma Ormsby (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam) finished first-second in the 200-yard backstroke event. Rebecca Merrill (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford) swam a time of 2:31.14 in the 200-yard butterfly to come in second. On the men's team, Tellekamp won first place in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 55.72, while DeMarco took home first in the 100-yard breaststroke.
 
Lone Diver: Junior Matt Patton put up scores of 220.80 and 383.40 in the two separate rounds on the 1-meter diving board. He grabbed a total of eight points for UC by placing second in both heats.
 
Individual Medley: Rebecca Merrill (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford) finished the 200-yard IM race in second place with a time of 2:31.63 in the meet against St. Lawrence.
 
Looking Ahead: The Pioneers will have some time to prepare for the Empire 8 Championships that are scheduled to start on February 20th. The championship meet will run through February 23rd and will be hosted by Webster High School in Webster, NY.
