Utica, NY – The Utica College women's swim & dive team is set to host the Skidmore Thoroughbreds in a dual meet at the Utica College Pool this Saturday at 1 p.m.
Last Time Out: The Pioneers swept the Roberts Wesleyan Invitational, beating both Roberts Wesleyan (133-105) and Wells (149-52) last Saturday.
The team started the afternoon on a strong note, as Emma Ormsby (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam) (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam),
Kira Seaman (Fort Edward, NY/Hudson Falls) (Fort Edward, NY/Hudson Falls),
Rebecca Merrill (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford) (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford), and
Katie Delgado (Greene, NY/Broome CCC) (Greene, NY/Broome CCC) posted a first place finish in the 200 yard medley relay with a time of 2:11.33.
Kelly Waryncia (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa),
Daniela Hannah (Dalton, GA/Northwest Whitfield) (Dalton, GA/Northwest Whitfield), Delgado and Merrill shined individually, as they were the only Pioneers to notch two top-two finishes on the afternoon. Delgado led the way with two first place finishes in the 50 (27.69) and 100 yard (1:02.68) freestyle. Merrill also had a great night, as she tabbed a first place finish in the 200 yard butterfly with a time of 2:32.65 while finishing second in the 400 yard IM with a time of 5:24.44. Hannah also finished in second in both the 200 (2:24.70) and 500 yard (6:11.63) freestyle. Waryncia did the same in the 1000 yard freestyle (13:27.17) and 200 yard breaststroke (2:58.43).
Kate Anderson (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook) (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook),
Sara Kuiken (Valley Falls, NY/Tamarack) (Valley Falls, NY/Tamarack) and Seaman all rounded out the UC sheet with second place finishes in the 200 yard backstroke (2:42.47), 100 yard backstroke (1:16.66) and 100 yard breaststroke (1:21.89), respectively.
Returning Crew: Eight swimmers are returning from last season, including four sophomores and four seniors. The senior class includes
Emily Czerwonka (Souderton, PA/Souderton Area),
Daniela Hannah (Dalton, GA/Northwest Whitfield),
Courtney Kennedy (Smithtown, NY/Our Lady of Mercy) and
Rebecca Merrill (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford). The sophomore class showcases
Emma Blenis (Norwich, NY/Norwich),
Emma Ormsby (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam),
Kira Seaman (Fort Edward, NY/Hudson Falls) and
Kelly Waryncia (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa).
New Faces: The women's team will be adding five new swimmers to this year's roster. The incoming freshman class includes
Kate Anderson (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook),
Jasmine Bigdoski (Irondequoit, NY/Eastridge),
Mackenzie Farina (Amsterdam/Amsterdam) and
Sara Kuiken (Valley Falls, NY/Tamarack). The Pioneers also added one transfer in sophomore
Katie Delgado (Greene, NY/Broome CCC), who spent her freshman year at Broome County Community College.
Looking Ahead: The Pioneers head back on the road for a dual meet against the Cazenovia Wildcats on Saturday, December 6 at 6 p.m.
