Women's Hockey Wraps up Regular Season Against Wilkes

UTICA, NY- The Utica College women's hockey team wraps up the regular season this weekend as it takes on Wilkes University in a home-and-home series.  The Pioneers will travel to Wilkes-Barre, PA on Friday for a 5 p.m. faceoff against the Colonels before both teams meet in Utica on Saturday at 3 p.m.
 
Last Time Out:  The Pioneers are coming off a pair of losses to UCHC frontrunner and nationally ranked No. 1 Elmira College last weekend… UC put up a fight in the first game, leading the Soaring Eagles 2-1 halfway through the second period, but Elmira responded to score four unanswered goals and earn the 5-2 victory… Maddie Paydos (Simsbury, CT/Vermont Academy) and Rebecca Brown (Steamboat Springs, CO/Norwich University) scored for UC, while Nicole Johnson (North Easton, MA/Holderness), Caley Susitti (Hartland, WI/Milwaukee Jr. Admirals), Georgiana Santullo (Woburn, MA/Boston Shamrocks/Woburn High School), and Danielle Haasbeek (Grand Forks, ND/Balmoral Hall) each had one assist… Junior Bria Reilly (Hamden, CT/Brewster Academy) made a career-high 41 saves in the loss… Elmira overpowered UC in the series finale on Saturday, coming away with a 6-1 win… The Soaring Eagles special teams were firing on all cylinders as they converted on 3-of-7 power plays, while holding Utica scoreless on five opportunities… Elizabeth Dohner (Highlands Ranch, CO/Colorado Selects) scored the lone goal for Utica, with Santullo and Lexi Stanisewski (Lawrence, MA/Boston Shamrocks) picking up the assists… Sophomore Ryann Stripp (Holland Patent, NY/Clinton Warriors) made 28 saves in net. 
 
Lexi Leading the Way: Sophomore Lexi Stanisewski (Lawrence, MA/Boston Shamrocks) leads the team with14 assists and 22 points… Stanisewski, who was a UCHC all-rookie team selection one year ago, has reached new career highs in goals (eight), assists, and points… With 23 games played, she is averaging just under a point per game (.96 points per game) this season.
 
Big Bad Brown:  Junior Rebecca Brown (Steamboat Springs, CO/Norwich University) has been the top scorer for the Pioneers so far racking up 12 goals and adding eight assists…  Brown is tied for second on the squad with 20 points, marking her second straight season she has reached the 20-point mark.
 
20/20: Utica has two other players tied for second with 20 points on the year… Freshman Georgiana Santullo (Woburn, MA/Boston Shamrocks/Woburn High School) is third on the team in both goals (nine) and assists (11)… She is the first Pioneer in three years to score 20 points in her freshman campaign… Elizabeth Dohner (Highlands Ranch, CO/Colorado Selects) has eight goals so far and her 12 assists rank second on the team… Dohner is the active leader with 97 games played and 68 points in her career… This is the first time in five years that Utica has had four players with at least 20 points in a season. 
 
Senior Day: Prior to Saturday's game, the Pioneers will honor their seven seniors in a special pre-game ceremony… Over the last four years, the class of 2019 has helped lead Utica to 65 wins and four straight conference tournament appearances, including a spot in the 2015-16 ECAC West Conference Championship game.   
 
Scouting Wilkes: The Colonels, who are in the first year of varsity competition, are currently 0-13-1 on the season… Wilkes is coming off a 1-1 tie against Lebanon Valley on Feb. 6… Freshman Ally Joly made 44 saves en route to being named the UCHC Goalie of the Week on Monday… This will be the first ever meeting between Utica and Wilkes in women's hockey. 
 
Up Next: The Pioneers, who have qualified for the conference tournament for the 17th time in the program's 18-year history, will play in the UCHC quarter finals next Saturday… Game time, location, and opponent are to be determined.
