We Want The Cup: The Pioneers claimed a share of the Brozman Cup title by sweeping their two scheduled games this weekend in Oneonta. On Friday, the Pioneers lifted the lid on the campaign with a fierce offensive performance as they topped Morrisville 4-0. Kierra Caissey (Gardner, MA/Gardner) netted a penalty kick goal for Utica that stood as the game-winner, and Mikayla Blumenstock (Poland, NY/Poland), Carly Craft (Ellenville, NY/Ellenville), and Sydney Cook (Waterville, NY/Waterville) each added in a goal apiece. Cook also added an assist for the Pioneers in her first game with the team. The Pioneers started five newcomers in their eleven during the season opener. Allison Wagner (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) had a five save clean sheet for her twelfth career shutout. On Saturday, the Pioneers got a sublime performance from Wagner, as she stopped all thirteen shots to land on the frame for a clean sheet in a 2-0 win over Keuka. Caissey and Blumenstock each posted their second goal of the weekend in the win.

Saving The Top Spot: With her third save of Saturday's match against Keuka, goalkeeper Allison Wagner (Canandaigua, NY/Canandaigua Academy) wrote her way into the program history books. Her third save put her at 427 stops for her career to become the college's all-time leader in saves. She surpassed Melissa Diana's record of 426 saves that stood for just over twenty years. Wagner now has 437 stops for her career with the remainder of her senior season left to play.

The Last Time We Were 3-0: Coincidentally, Utica also opened the season at the Brozman Cup the last time it reeled off three straight wins to open the year in 2014. The Pioneers prevailed past Lycoming 2-1, before defeating Keuka 3-2 in double overtime at the tournament. Utica added a 1-0 road win against Clarkson to complete the streak. Maddisen Melley rattled off three goals in the first three matches to pace Utica's strong start that season.

Last Year Vs. Buffalo State: This will be the second meeting between the Pioneers and Bengals. Last season, the teams battled to a 110 minute, double overtime, scoreless draw at Coyer Field in Buffalo. Wagner made eight saves to bring Utica to the finish line in the squad's first result of the season.

We Get The Point: Utica has started off at the strongest offensive pace in the conference, averaging three goals per match. Through two matches, Utica has five players with three total points or more to their name. Caissey and Blumenstock lead the way with four points on two goals, and Craft, Cook, and Gagnon have three points apiece.

Time Management: Aside from Wagner, no player on the roster played all 180 minutes of regulation action in this weekend's victories. Summer Gagnon (Manchester, NH/Manchester) led all Pioneer field players in minutes played with 174, followed by Caissey, who put together a 172 minute performance in two games.

Summer Schooled: Defender Summer Gagnon (Manchester, NH/Manchester) has been an especially productive two-way player so far for the Pioneers. When the Pioneers have brought numbers to their attack, Gagnon has been a top playmaker as she leads the team with three assists on the team's six goals coming out of the opening weekend.

The Kids Are Alright: Two newcomers to the Pioneer roster recorded points in their first weekend with Utica. Sydney Cook (Waterville, NY/Waterville), a transfer from Mohawk Valley Community College, finished the weekend with a goal and an assist. Freshman Eliza Ericson (Beacon, NY/Beacon) also added an assist during the team's win over Keuka.

A New Beginning: During last year's historic campaign, Utica did not record a winning result in its first three matches before turning the year around en route to ten wins and a berth in the conference finals. This season, Utica already has two wins under its belt and may be in position to exceed their 2018 results.

Putting Up Goose Eggs: Utica posted consecutive shutouts on two separate instances last season. Their first such streak began with their scoreless draw against Buffalo State before a 4-0 win over Canton gave the squad its first win of the season. The second streak spanned three matches from October 18th to 24th, where Utica shut out SUNY Poly, St. John Fisher, and Hartwick.

Up Next: The Pioneers will be home again on Friday evening as they take on SUNY Canton. Match time against the Roos is set for 7 p.m.
