Field Hockey Remains Home to Host Ithaca

Utica, NY - The Utica College field hockey team remains home Wednesday as it takes on Ithaca College under the lights at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.  Game time is scheduled for 7 p.m.
 
Last Time Out: The Pioneers are coming off a 0-2 opening weekend in which they lost to New Paltz 4-1 and SUNY Oneonta 4-3. Despite falling in both games, Utica outplayed its opponents in the second half of both matches. Jeslyn Files (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) scored the lone goal on Friday, while Sydney Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) and Madeline Krecidlo (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) scored on Saturday.  Sophomore goalie Megan Chamberlain (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury) totaled 20 save on the weekend, including a clutch stop on a penalty stroke against Oneonta. 
 
Breaking Out: Junior forward Sydney Scaccia (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) totaled 13 points (six goals, one assist) in her first season and 10 points (three goals, four assists) last year. Her junior campaign has already been an impressive one, as she has five points so far on two goals and one assist.
 
Watch for Whitehouse: Junior Sabrina Whitehouse (Greenwich, NY/Greenwich) has scored at least one point in eight of her last nine games dating back to Oct. 6 last season.  Whitehouse has chipped in with one assist in each game so far this year. 
 
Time management: Outside of goalkeeper Megan Chamberlain (Queensbury, NY/Queensbury), only senior Makenzie Stevens (New York Mills, NY/New York Mills) has played all 120 minutes of both games so far this year.
 
Deep History: These two teams have met 19 times over the last 18 years. The Pioneers won five-straight games from 2011-2014, but Ithaca has won three of the last four. The Bombers currently hold the advantage in head-to-head meetings, winning 11 of the 19 matchups with the Pioneers.
 
Scouting Ithaca: The Bombers are 2-0 after the first weekend of play, as they defeated Cabrini University 4-3 and Drew University 5-0. Junior Kristen Rafferty (two goals, one assist) and sophomore Morgan Mullen (three goals) share the team-lead with six points each. Goalie Savanna Lanker boasts a 1.50 goals against average and a .571 save percentage through two games. 
 
Looking Ahead: The Pioneers will have nine days off before returning home on Friday, Sept. 13 to host the University of Rochester.  Game time is scheduled for 4 p.m.
