Utica, NY - The Utica College men's and women's swim & dive team culminates their regular season this weekend with a home dual meet against the Clarkson Golden Knights on Saturday at 1 p.m.
Senior Day: Six seniors are set to be honored for Senior Day:
Daniela Hannah (Dalton, GA/Northwest Whitfield),
Rebecca Merrill (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford),
Emily Czerwonka (Souderton, PA/Souderton Area),
Courtney Kennedy (Smithtown, NY/Our Lady of Mercy),
Matt Patton (Waterford, CT/Waterford) and
Sean Neary (Marlborough, CT/Montana State). Congratulations to this year's senior class on all their accomplishments both in the pool and the classroom.
Last Time Out:Â The Utica College men's and women's swim & dive team fell to St. Lawrence Saturday afternoon in their final road meet of the season. The men's team dropped the dual meet 117-82, while the women's team did the same, 132-63.
Kira Seaman (Fort Edward, NY/Hudson Falls) posted the best individual finish of the afternoon, placing first in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:24.42. Michael Leyburn (Monson, MA/Monson) was the lone Pioneer on the men's side to place first, as he did so in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:06.13.
Emma Ormsby (Potsdam, NY/Potsdam), Emily Czerwonka (Souderton, PA/Souderton Area), Sara Kuiken (Valley Falls, NY/Tamarack) and Daniela Hannah (Dalton, GA/Northwest Whitfield) also finished first in the 200 yard freestyle relay with a time of 2:00.58.
Diver Matt Patton (Waterford, CT/Waterford) excelled on the board, placing first in both the one meter and three meter diving events with final scores of 196.80 and 196.95.
The women's team also saw success from Kate Anderson (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook), Rebecca Merrill (Chelmsford, MA/Chelmsford) and Courtney Kennedy (Smithtown, NY/Our Lady of Mercy), who each finished second in the 50 yard freestyle (30.19), 100 yard butterfly (1:10.59) and 100 yard breaststroke (1:42.02), respectively.
Lucas DiLego (Oneida, NY/Oneida) was the only Pioneer to clinch multiple second-place finishes, doing so in the 200 yard freestyle (2:01.48) and 100 yard butterfly (1:01.26).
Coleman Barry (Levittown, NY/Division) and Jackson Sorbello (Rome, NY/RFA) etched second-place finishes as well in the 1000 yard and (11:31.51) and 100 yard freestyle (55.09), respectively.Â
Up Next: Utica returns to action for the on February 18 for the Empire 8 Championships. This championship week extends all the way through to February 22, and will be hosted in Rochester for the men and Webster for the women.
