Swim & Dive to Host First Meet of the Season on Friday

UTICA, NY - The Utica College men's and women's swim & dive teams are set to host a quad-meet at 6 p.m. on November 5. The teams will compete against SUNY Cobleskill, SUNY Delhi and Cazenovia College at the Utica College Pool.

Last Time Out: The teams traveled to Hobart & William Smith Colleges on October 30 where the women's team took on William Smith College and Roberts Wesleyan College while the men went up against Roberts Wesleyan. The men's team fell to Roberts Wesleyan, 133-35, while the women's team was defeated by William Smith, 222-37, and Roberts Wesleyan, 140-73. On the women's side, UC finished second in the 200-yard medley relay as Amelia Laible (Oakdale, NY/Connetquot), Kira Seaman (Fort Edward, NY/Hudson Falls), Bailey Simmons (Vernon Center, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill ) and Madison West (Malone, NY/Franklin Academy ) finished with a time of 2:07.06 which was six seconds off of the lead. Seaman would wind up also finishing third in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:18.63. Simmons placed fourth in the 50-yard freestyle, clocking in at 27.77. West impressed in the 100-yard freestyle, coming in second place one second off of the lead at 1:00.69. The tandem of Kelly Waryncia (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa), Sara Kuiken (Valley Falls, NY/Tamarack), Anderson and Laible finished third in the 200-yard freestyle relay with a time of 2:01.18. For the men, Chase Dobbertin (1:08.25) and Nick Massa (1:13.76) placed second and third in the 100-yard backstroke. Barry Coleman finished second in the 100-yard breaststroke, coming in at 1:14.53. In the 14th event, the 50-yard backstroke, Dobbertin came in second with a time of 25.43 and also in the 100-yard freestyle finishing at 57.50. Coleman and Massa also finished second and third in the 100-yard butterfly, Coleman with a time of 1:04.44 and Massa finishing at 1:11.24. 
 
About Delhi: The Broncos last competed at the Hartwick quint-meet on October 23 while both teams finished 0-3 at the event. Alexandria Caceres placed third in the women's 50-yard freestyle with a time of 26.69 seconds, less than one full second off of the lead, as well as third in the women's 100-yard freestyle with a time of 58.15 seconds. Travis Belanger and Sebastian Herrara came in eighth and ninth in the men's 50-yard freestyle with times of 25.11 and 26.82 seconds. 
 
A Look at Caz: The Wildcats will be sending its women's team to Utica on Friday and will carry an 0-2 record into the meet. Cazenovia was downed by Roberts Wesleyan, 147-37, and Medaille College, 73-71, in its first meet of the year. Maddie Sauro impressed at the tri-meet, finishing second in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:09.19 as well as in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 29.31 seconds. 
 
Taming the Tigers: This will be the first meet of the season for both men's and women's swim & dive teams at Cobleskill. In 2019-20, the women's team completed its season with a 7-5 record while placing second out of five teams at the NEAC Swimming & Diving Championships. The men's team compiled a 7-4 record that season while also placing second at the NEAC Swimming & Diving Championships. 

A Look Ahead: The teams will travel to Roberts Wesleyan College at 1 p.m. on November 20 for the Roberts Wesleyan Invitational where they will compete against the Redhawks as well as Wells College.
