Swim & Dive Impresses in First Home Meet of the Year

UTICA, NY - The Utica College men's and women's swim & dive teams hosted Cazenovia, SUNY Cobleskill and SUNY Delhi at the Utica College Pool on Friday night. The women's team went a perfect 3-0 on the night with wins of 143-45 over SUNY Cobleskill, 138-71 over Cazenovia and 138-28 over SUNY Delhi. The men went 2-1 with wins of 54-0 over Cazenovia, 54-30 over SUNY Delhi while the single blemish was a 73-49 loss to SUNY Cobleskill. 
 
The women's team ended the first home meet of the season with a plethora of team and individual wins. Sophomore Bailey Simmons (Vernon Center, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill ) took home three on her own including wins in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:15.12 and the 50-yard butterfly, clocking in at 33.14. Amelia Laible (Oakdale, NY/Connetquot), Kira Seaman (Fort Edward, NY/Hudson Falls), Madison West (Malone, NY/Franklin Academy ) and Simmons combined for a first place finish in the 200-yard medley relay with a total time of 2:05.94. 
 
Liable won the 50-yard backstroke (31.75), Seaman and Kim Serio (Lakeville, NY/Livonia) finished first and second in the 50-yard breaststroke (35.22 and 40.26) while Kate Anderson (Lynbrook, NY/Lynbrook) took the 1,000-yard freestyle (12:36.42) and the 50-yard freestyle (6:13.97). Katie Delgado (Greene, NY/Broome CCC) and West finished in the top-two spots at the 50-yard freestyle, West taking first with a time of 26.80 while Delgado came in right behind her at 27.11. Seaman took home the 100-yard breaststroke (1:20.35) with Serio finishing second at 1:26.88. 
 
The men's team also took home numerous individual events. Michael Colocho (Utica, NY/Proctor) finished first in the 200-yard freestyle (2:42.85), the 100-yard breaststroke (1:17.62) and the 50-yard breaststroke (35.83). Jackson Sorbello (Rome, NY/RFA) finished first in the 50-yard freestyle (24.38) as well as the 50-yard backstroke (30.58). He also placed second in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 52.53, a fraction of a second behind first place. 
 
UC (women's 4-4; men's 3-4) will compete next at the Roberts Wesleyan Invitational against Roberts Wesleyan College and Wells College at 1 p.m. on Saturday, November 20.
