UTICA, NY - The Utica College men's and women's swim & dive teams will travel to Cazenovia, NY on Friday, December 3 for a 6 p.m. meet against Cazenovia College.
Last Time Out: The teams each split their tri-meets on November 20 against Roberts Wesleyan College and Wells College at the Utica College Pool. The men fell to Roberts Wesleyan, 125-66, and beat Wells, 103-49, while the women's team also lost to Roberts Wesleyan, 135-109, but picked up a win against Wells as well, 169-63.
Bringing Out the Hardware: Jackson Sorbello and
Kira Seaman (Fort Edward, NY/Hudson Falls) both enter Friday's meet fresh off of earning Empire 8 Swim & Dive Athlete of the Week honors. Sorbello picked up a pair of individual wins last time out while helping the team defeat Wells College, 103-49. Sorbello touched the wall first in the 100-yard butterfly with a time of 58.39 while later winning the 50-yard butterfly in 26.36, just .12 seconds ahead of second place. He also finished runner-up in the 100-yard free (25.17) and the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:58.17) along with teammates Coleman Barry, Nick Massa and Michael Colocho. Seaman took home the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:21.82 and while also assisting in the team's 200-yard medley relay win along with
Amelia Laible (Oakdale, NY/Connetquot),
Kelly Waryncia (Clifton Park, NY/Shenendehowa) and
Katie Delgado (Greene, NY/Broome CCC). The senior also finished third in the 50-yard breaststroke (36.31) and the 100-yard individual medley (1:16.49).
Big Showings All-Around: While Sorbello and Seaman stood out in UC's last meet on November 20, plenty of others had wonderful performances that may have been overlooked. Coleman Barry is coming off of two individual wins after taking the 200-yard freestyle in 2:02.17 and the 100-yard backstroke in 1:03.83. Liable went on to win the 50-yard backstroke in 31.59,
Madison West (Malone, NY/Franklin Academy ) took home the 50-yard freestyle in 27.00 while teammate
Bailey Simmons (Vernon Center, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill ) finished .16 seconds behind her. Simmons also finished runner-up in 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:13.88 while
Sara Kuiken (Valley Falls, NY/Tamarack) and Kimmy Serio finished third and fourth in the event, respectively.
About Cazenovia: The Wildcats women's team will carry a 4-3 record into Friday after defeating Herkimer Community College and SUNY Cobleskill in its last meet on November 13. Utica came away with a 138-71 win over Cazenovia the last time the teams met on November 5. In that meet, Maddie Sauro claimed the Wildcats' lone individual win in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 1:09.72 while the team of Sauro, Emily Rees, Nikki Menz and Morganne Tighe won the 200-yard freestyle relay in 2:22.40.
Up Next: Both teams will be off until after the new year rolls around with the next meet coming at 1 p.m. on Friday, January 14 at Alfred University.
