UTICA, NY - The Utica College swimming and diving teams produced a dual-meet sweep on Friday night. The Pioneer women's squad took a convincing win against the Generals by a 70-11 score, while the men had to fend off a fierce effort by the visitors to win 40-33 at the Utica College Pool.
The meet served as senior night for the program.
The UC men grabbed their fifth win of the season and are now 5-8 overall in their dual meet slate. The UC women clawed closer to the .500 mark as they improved to 7-8. Both teams are maintaining a home winning percentage of .500 or better this season.
The UC women swept all of the top spots in the individual events.
Katie Delgado (Greene, NY/Broome CCC) helmed up the Utica effort as she won the 50 yard freestyle in 26.70 seconds, and later won the 100 freestyle in 1:02.71.
Madison West (Malone, NY/Franklin Academy ) won the 100 individual medley in 1:12.29, edging out teammate
Kira Seaman (Fort Edward, NY/Hudson Falls). Seaman went on to win the 200 breaststroke in 2:59.62.
Amelia Laible (Oakdale, NY/Connetquot) was the winner of the 200 backstroke in 2:28.45,
Sara Kuiken (Valley Falls, NY/Tamarack) topped the table in the 100 butterfly in 1:19.82, and
Bailey Simmons (Vernon Center, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill ) snagged the win in the 1000 freestyle in 12:30.17.
The men's squad won four of the six individual events. Jackson Sorbello won two of those events as he led the way with a 1:00.49 performance in the 100 individual medley, and a 58.30 in the 100 butterfly to claim the top spot. Nick Massa was the top man in the 100 freestyle with a winning performance of 1:00.38. Coleman Barry added to a second place finish in the 100 individual medley with a victory in the 1000 freestyle in 11:49.
Utica also logged wins in a mixed 200 medley relay, and a 200 freestyle relay.
The Pioneers round out the regular season at St. Lawrence on Saturday, January 29th.
