Swim & Dive Set to Host Medaille & Herkimer This Saturday

UTICA, NY - The Utica University swim and dive teams will host Medaille University and Herkimer County Community College on Saturday, January 21 at 1 p.m.

Last Time Out: The teams wrapped up their first meet in over a month on Saturday afternoon against Alfred University. The women fell 126-74 while the men were defeated 162-31. Paige Levine (Holtsville, NY/Sachem East) continued her strong season in freestyle events as she captured first in the women's 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 11:57.93. Levine also swam terrific in the women's 500 yard freestyle and captured first place with a time of 5:52.52. Annabelle Workman (Carthage, NY/Carthage) had a great day placing first in both of her events. In the women's one meter diving she scored 118.58 and then 105.30 in her second attempt. Jackson Sorbello placed first in the men's 100 yard butterfly clocking in at 58.73. Nick Massa captured first place in the men's 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:13.15. Massa also swam well in the men's 200 yard freestyle and came in second clocking in at 2:13.91. Sorbello came in second place in the men's 50 yard freestyle coming in at 23.67 which was just .33 behind first place.
 
Levine Time: Paige Levine (Holtsville, NY/Sachem East) has had a fantastic season in freestyle events this season and has collected a plethora of first place finishes. In the team's last meet Levine continued her strong season as she captured first in the women's 1000 yard freestyle with a time of 11:57.93. Levine also swam terrific in the women's 500 yard freestyle and captured first place with a time of 5:52.52. Her success in freestyle events has earned the team plenty of points this season and she continues to set new personal records.
 
"Work"in Hard: Annabelle Workman (Carthage, NY/Carthage) has had a great start to her Pioneer career and has collected multiple wins in diving events this season. Against Alfred, Workman had a great day placing first in both of her events. In the women's one meter diving she scored 118.58 and then 105.30 in her second attempt. The sophomore is the team's top diver and looks to continue her strong season as the team heads down the stretch.
 
Collecting Points: Jackson Sorbello and Nick Massa turned in strong performances against Alfred and collected plenty of points for the team. Sorbello continued to excel in butterfly events, placing first in the men's 100 yard butterfly clocking in at 58.73. Sorbello also came in second place in the men's 50 yard freestyle coming in at 23.67 which was just .33 behind first place. Nick Massa had one of his best outings of the season, capturing first place in the men's 100 yard backstroke with a time of 1:13.15. Massa also swam well in the men's 200 yard freestyle and came in second clocking in at 2:13.91.
 
Scouting Medaille: The men's team is 1-5 this season while the women are 0-6. The men's team features three swimmers and the women's team has four. Daniel O'Brien is a threat in the men's 100 yard and 200 yard freestyle. Ethan Heim is the Maverick's top swimmer in the 100 yard breaststroke usually clocking in around the 1:10 mark. Ashton Laird is the top swimmer for the women and has been a threat in the 100 yard backstroke and 50 yard freestyle. Teammate Rachel Vazquez also does well in freestyle events and is another name to look out for.
 
Herkimer Preview: Both the men's and women's teams feature three swimmers. The men's team is composed of Edson Matolombe, Riley Thompson, and Matthew Travis. The women's team features Madison Campagna, Jasmine Martin, and Alyssa Parkhurst. The teams of young swimmers are competitive in many events and will make the events competitive. 
 
Up Next: The teams will host St. Lawrence University in the final regular season meet on Saturday, January 28 at 1 p.m.
