Box Score 2 WASHINGTON, D.C. - The Utica University volleyball team wrapped up Day One of the Worthington Classic and fell to Catholic University 3-1 and 3-0 to Marymount University.

Eleanor Cepiel (West Sand Lake, NY/Academy of Holy Names) led the team with 15 kills while
Meghan Brennan (Southbury, CT/Pomperaug) tallied 12. The duo were great and the backbone of Utica's offense.
Lauren Jones (West Winfield, NY/Mount Markham) and
Peyton Migliaccio (Suffern, NY/Suffern) were also effective, each tallying at least five kills. The duo of
Madison Maggiore (Orangeburg, NY/Tappan Zee) and
Lauren Jones (West Winfield, NY/Mount Markham) set up the offense well with each recording more than 17 assists. The Pioneers had 10 service aces as Cepiel and Jones each had three while
Jada Anthony (West Nyack, NY/Clarkstown South), Maggiore, and Migliaccio each had at least one.
Megan Wright (Clay Center, KS/Clay Center Community) led the way defensively with 14 digs while
Cassi Wagemann (Diamond Point, NY/Lake George), Jones, and Cepiel each had at least eight digs.

Catholic jumped out to a 7-0 lead in set one yet the Pioneers were able to slowly cut into the lead and trailed just 14-7. The Cardinals used a late run to capture set one 25-12.

Utica opened up set two with a 4-2 advantage and eventually led 9-6. The Cardinals rallied to grab a 18-13 edge yet the Pioneers cut the lead to just one. Catholic held on for a 25-21 set two win.

The teams exchanged points to begin the third set with it being knotted at 9-9. Utica used its offense, especially its serves to grab a 17-12 advantage. A Migliaccio service ace sealed the deal and Utica took set three 25-18 and trailed 2-1 in the match.

Catholic opened set four up with a 4-0 edge yet Utica rallied to gain a 10-8 lead. The teams kept battling and the set was tied 21-21 and the Cardinals stole set four 25-23 and won the match 3-1.

Marymount 3, Utica 0

Cepiel and Brennan led the offense for Utica again each recording more than five kills in the contest. Jones tallied two service aces while Cepiel and Maggiore each added one. The duo of Jones and Maggiore led the facilitating each dishing out at least eight assists. Cepiel and Anthony each had one block while Wagemann was the defensive anchor with eight digs.

The first set saw the teams exchanging points with a plethora of lead changes until Marymount took a 13-10 edge. Utica battled trailing by just four late in the set, yet the Saints won the first set 25-17.

Marymount continued its momentum into the second set grabbing an early 12-4 advantage. Utica made a late run yet the Saints hung on for a 25-9 set two victory.
The Pioneers grabbed an early 4-3 lead in set three and eventually extended its lead to 12-7. Utica kept its momentum going holding a late 18-16 edge yet Marymount stole the set winning it 25-20 and securing a 3-0 match victory.

Utica (7-7, 0-0 Empire 8) will face Arcadia University tomorrow at noon with an opponent to be determined to follow.
