UTICA, NY- The Utica University women's soccer team is on the road for a trio of games this week, starting on Wednesday, September 6 at 6:00 p.m. to face cross-town rival SUNY Poly. The Pioneers will then travel to Fredonia State on Friday for the Blue Devil Clarion Classic to face the Fredonia Blue Devils and the Oswego State Lakers. Utica will take on the Oswego State on Friday at 1 p.m in a neutral site meeting before matching up against the Fredonia Blue Devils on Saturday at 12:30 p.m.

Last Time Out: Rylee Lamphere (Little Falls, NY/Dolgeville) had a strong season debut with four points on one goal and two assists.

Julianna Beaulieu (Southwick, MA/Chicopee Comprehensive),
Kaela Mochak (Westfield, MA/Westfield),
Mikayla Kelley (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) and
Jazmyn Gillette (Mohawk, NY/Central Valley Academy) tallied one goal each as well. Gillette's score marked the first of her Pioneer career. Utica outshot Morrisville 26-4 including 20-2 on goal. With strong defense aiding her,
Courtney Connolly (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) earned the win with one save on her sheet over 64 minutes of play.
Karen Troche (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) played the final 26 minutes and allowed just one goal. Only 1:40 into the game,
Kaela Mochak (Westfield, MA/Westfield) put Utica ahead with an assist from
Rylee Lamphere (Little Falls, NY/Dolgeville) for a 1-0 lead. In the 24th minute, senior
Gabriela Daumont (Latham, NY/Shaker) added another goal after she found the back of the net with an assist from
Kayla Giovingo (Centereach, NY/Centereach) . The Pioneers would go on to take their two goal lead into halftime. Early in the second half, Lamphere assisted on another goal, this time to
Mikayla Kelley (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) , to make the score 3-0. Less than two minutes later,
Julianna Beaulieu (Southwick, MA/Chicopee Comprehensive) got on the score sheet for her first of the season. With a pair of assists already under her belt, Lamphere sent one into the back of the net herself for her first tally of the year to put Utica up 5-0. In the 74th minute, Callie Lafontaine put Morrisville on the board to cut the lead to four, but
Jazmyn Gillette (Mohawk, NY/Central Valley Academy) responded just 24 seconds later for her first collegiate goal to allow the Pioneers to regain their five goal edge and pull away with the road win.
Youth Movement: Rylee Lamphere (Little Falls, NY/Dolgeville),
Kayla Giovingo (Centereach, NY/Centereach) and
Cora Kraft (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) are motivated to make an impact on the 2023 season. Lamphere has started off her sophomore season with a bang. She currently leads the Empire 8 with two assists and she is tied with two other players in the conference with four points. Lamphere has three shots on goal tied for the most on the team along with junior
Rory Richard (Barneveld, NY/Holland Patent). Giovingo dished out one assist as she and Kraft were the only players to play all 90 minutes along with freshman newcomer Kraft. Kraft recorded one shot on goal in her first collegiate game with Utica.
Experience Pays Off: Utica was led by four seniors and one junior newcomer each recording one goal against Morrisville.

Mikayla Kelley (Ballston Spa/Ballston Spa) and
Kaela Mochak (Westfield, MA/Westfield) led the way for the Pioneers on the offensive side of the ball. Beaulieu's goal against Morrisville was the second time she's scored in an opening game, last season against Poly she scored two goals on three shots. Gillette has recorded at least one point in every game dating back to last October against SUNY Broome when she played with Mohawk Valley Community College.
Countin' on Courtney: Courtney Connolly (Warwick, NY/Warwick Valley) started the first game of the 2023 season as she pitched a shutout in 64 minutes. She stands alone as the only goalie in the Empire 8 with zero goals aloud. Last season against the Wildcats, Connolly recorded one save, clocked in 63 minutes and recorded a clean sheet.
Looking At Poly: The SUNY Poly Wildcats are 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the NAC to start the year. The team kicked off their season with a 1-0 win against conference opponent Eastern Nazarene. Midfielder Brooke Bush finished last season with nine points. She is back this season leading the team with one goal and one assist. Katelynn Truax has the only assist on the season so far for the Wildcats. Goalkeeper Katie Bowers is back this season after starting in six matches in 2022. Against Eastern Nazarene Bowers recorded three saves after playing all 90 minutes.
Scouting Oswego: Oswego will be opening its season against SUNY Canton on Tuesday, September 5. The Lakers finished the 2022 season 9-6-4 overall and 3-3-3 in the SUNYAC. Last season graduate student Graisa Madden and freshman Brianna Winkler led the Lakers with 11 points. Winkler is returning for the 2023 season after a productive first season. The Lakers finished fifth in the SUNYAC in the 2022 season. Sophomore goalkeeper Perri Anderson started in all 19 games and will be returning this season after winning nine matches and posting a 1.00 goal against average in 2022. The last time the Pioneers and Lakers met was in the Blue Devil Claron Classic and the teams tied 0-0.
About Fredonia: The Fredonia Blue Devils are 0-2 overall and 0-0 in the SUNYAC. The team lost its first two matches of the season against Carnegie Mellon University and Baldwin Wallace University. Last season the team was led by sophomore Brianna Grazen who led the team in goals, assists and shots on goal. She scored three goals, dished out five assists and 14 shots on goal. The last times these teams faced off was last September and Fredonia took the win 3-2.
