One More for Good Measure: Jane Fahy (Oriskany, NY/MVCC/Oriskany) was named the Empire 8 Co-Field Athlete of the Week on Monday. She repeated as the AARTFC shot put champion after hitting 14.46m on her final attempt last Thursday, topping the second place finisher by 0.79m. Each of her final four throws were 14.16m or farther. Fahy also cemented the top mark in the Niagara Region to garner USTFCCCA All-Region honors. She cleared the rest of the region by over 1.00m in the shot put as her 14.77m toss at the 2024 Capital District Classic at RPI on April 26 topped the Niagara Region. That same throw also set new program and Empire 8 Conference records while coming in as the fourth best mark in NCAA Division III.
Been Here Before: This will be Fahy's third straight national appearance for the Pioneers. This past indoor season, the graduate student was the national runner-up in shot put with a throw of 14.44m. That marked the highest placement at the national level in school history for any individual athlete or team. Dating back to last outdoor season's nationals, Fahy reached 14.28m to earn sixth place, giving her All-American status for the first time. Entering Friday, Fahy is seeded fourth with a mark of 14.77m which gives her the opportunity to capture her third and final All-American honor and the second of her outdoor career.
Legacy Cemented: Besides being a two-time All-American, Fahy has one of the most decorated resumes in program history. In shot put, Fahy is a seven-time Empire 8 champion, two-time AARTFC Champion, school record holder for both indoor and outdoor shot put, and the Empire 8 Conference record holder in the outdoor shot put.
The Field: Of the 22 athletes competing in the shot put on Friday, each of them qualified with a mark of 13.60m or farther. Furthermore, Fahy is one of 13 in the event that cleared 14.00m and is one of five to go past 14.50m. The top-two seeds, reigning indoor champion Alexis Boykin (MIT) and Aubrey Schoeneman of Carthage, are the only two that have surpassed 15.00m (Boykin 15.36m and Schoeneman 15.17m).
