Fahy, Mix & Youngs Highlight Women's Track & Field All-Empire 8 Honors

ROCHESTER, NY - The Utica University women's outdoor track & field team had 21 total All-Empire 8 selections, as announced by the league on Tuesday. The honors were highlighted by the Empire 8 Track Athlete of the Year, Mackenzie Mix (Camden, NY/Camden), the Empire 8 Field Athlete of the Year, All-American Jane Fahy (Oriskany, NY/MVCC/Oriskany), and the Empire 8 Rookie of the Year, Alyssa Youngs (Constableville/West Canada Valley)

Mackenzie Mix (Camden, NY/Camden), who was named the E8 Track Athlete of the Meet, earned Empire 8 Track Athlete of the Year honors for the second time in her career. Mix brought in All-Empire 8 First Team honors in the 100m (12.30), 200m (25.54) and the 400m (57.60) after winning the individual Empire 8 title in each: all of which for the second time in her career. She brings her career outdoor total to 12 All-E8 selections after also earning second team honors in both the 4x100 and 4x400. Mix's top-mark of 56.42 in the 400m this season also set a new program record.

Two-time outdoor All-American Jane Fahy (Oriskany, NY/MVCC/Oriskany) captured the Empire 8 Field Athlete of the Year honor for the second consecutive season. The graduate student also earned All-Empire 8 First Team honors in the shot put for the third year in a row with her winning mark of 14.50m which set a new Empire 8 Championships meet record. Fahy was named second team All-E8 in the discus for third time in her career as well as she reached 40.54m at the championships. Fahy's 2024 outdoor season included capturing All-American status yet again in the shot put with her third place finish at nationals, winning the individual All-Atlantic Region shot put championships, and setting a new program/Empire 8 record with a toss of 14.77m. She ends her illustrious career with nine total outdoor all-league honors which include two E8 Field Athlete of the Year accolades.

Alyssa Youngs (Constableville/West Canada Valley) became the fourth Pioneer all-time to be named the Empire 8 Rookie of the Year during the outdoor season. The freshman impressed at the Empire 8 Championships this past spring, capturing first team honors in the 400m hurdles (1:07.03), second team honors with the 4x400 team (4:06.97), and third team honors in the 100m hurdles (16.30).

Along with Fahy, Mix and Youngs, Utica boasted a trio of first time All-E8 honorees on the first team. Elaina Furtado-Rahill's (/North Providence) win in the javelin (33.66m) placed her on the All-E8 First Team while Hannah Allison (Herkimer, NY/Herkimer) (high jump - 1.57m) and Zeniyah Gholson (Monticello, NY/Monticello) (triple jump - 11.36m) each captured individual E8 titles to land on the first team.

Utica was well represented on the All-E8 Second Team as Nora Devitt (Beverly, MA/Beverly) earned two spots, one in the long jump (5.39m) and another in the triple jump (11.35m). Devitt takes her career outdoor all-conference total to four after previously earning second team honors last year in the 100m hurdles as well as sportswoman of the year honors. The 4x100 team of Zeniyah Gholson (Monticello, NY/Monticello), Janaiya Cruz-Bermudez (East Hartford, CT/East Hartford), Laura Meade (Glenville, NY/Scotia-Glenville), Mackenzie Mix (Camden, NY/Camden) garnered second team honors after placing second at the Empire 8 Championships with a time of 50.00.

Jade Dening (Remsen, NY/Remsen) repeated as a second teamer in the 800m, clocking 2:20.49 at the Empire 8 Championships. She brings her career outdoor All-E8 honors to six. The 4x400 team of Alyssa Youngs (Constableville/West Canada Valley), Janaiya Cruz-Bermudez (East Hartford, CT/East Hartford), Laura Meade (Glenville, NY/Scotia-Glenville), Mackenzie Mix (Camden, NY/Camden) rounded out Utica's second team All-E8 honorees after their second place finish at the Empire 8 Championships with a mark of 4:06.97.

The Pioneers also featured a pair of first time outdoor all-conference honorees in Riley King (Oswego, NY/Oswego) (hammer throw - 46.43m) and Allie Cary (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) (discus - 40.39m). While neither program record came at the championships, King and Cary both left their mark this season as King set the hammer throw record (47.41m) while Cary put her name atop the all-time Pioneer discus leaderboard (44.02m).

Laura Meade (Glenville, NY/Scotia-Glenville) was Utica's recipient of the Empire 8 Sportswoman of the Year honor. One member of each team was named that institution's representative on the 2024 Empire 8 Women's Outdoor Track & Field Sportswoman of the Year Team. The Empire 8 Conference emphasizes that "Competing with Honor and Integrity" is an essential component of a student-athlete's experience in conjunction with an institution's educational mission. These honorees have distinguished themselves and consistently exhibit the critical traits as outstanding sportswomen.
