Women's Cross Country Readies for NCAA Niagara Regional

UTICA, NY - The Utica University women's cross country team is set to take on the NCAA Niagara Regional, hosted by RIT on Saturday, November 15. The women's 6k race is set to begin at 11:30am, from Genesee Valley Park in Rochester, NY.

Last Time Out: The team took fifth place out of nine scoring teams at the 2025 Empire 8 Championships. Marlo Townsend (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) led the Pioneers with a time of 22:55.7, running her way into a team high fifth place finish. Catherine Manna (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) finished the 6k race with a time of 23:47.7, coming in 15th place. Lacey Simmons (Vernon Center, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) and Emma Charboneau (Fultonville, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) were the next Pioneers across the line with times of 24:57.6 and 26:37.3, respectively. Rounding out the scorecard for the Pioneers was Isabella Verdejo (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford), Caroline Young, and Kamryn Williams (New York Mills, NY/New York Mills). Verdejo finished with a time of 27:13.1, Young finished with a time of 28:32.7, and Williams finished with a time of 29:49.2.

Last Year @ Regionals: Last season, the Pioneers put together a program record ninth place finish at the regional meet. Leading the way for the women's team was Catherine Manna (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro), who ran a 23:29.0 en route to a 31st place finish. Marlo Townsend (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) was the team's second finisher, finishing just behind Manna running a 23:29.9.

About the Course: Genesee Valley Park will serve as the host venue for this weekend's events, with the women competing in a 6k course. GVP has hosted NCAA Regional Cross Country meets numerous times and consistently hosts some of the top rowing teams in the country at the Head of the Genesee Regatta and spring season dual races.

What's on the Line: The top finishing team will earn an automatic bid to the 2025 NCAA DIII Cross Country Championships. The top eight finishers outside of the qualifying team will earn at large selections to compete in the championship as an individual. 

Up Next: If qualified, the NCAA DIII Cross Country Championship will take place on Saturday, November 22 in Spartanburg, South Carolina.
