Eric Vitale (Toronto, ON/Shreveport Mudbugs (NAHL)) and
Riley King (Oswego, NY/Oswego) have been selected as the Pioneer Athletes of the Week for the week of March 31, 2025.
Vitale cemented himself as a Pioneer legend this past weekend, notching two goals in the NCAA Division III Semifinals and Finals to bring the team to the brink of their first ever national championship. Vitale scored the first goal of the championship bout, slotting away a bouncing puck in the goalmouth of the Hobart net to give the squad a 1-0 lead. Vitale's first goal is one that will be replayed for years to come though, as he put away a rebound in overtime of the semifinal showdown with Curry to win the game and send the Pioneers to their first ever NCAA Division III National Championship Appearance. Vitale was named to the All-Tournament team for his efforts.
King showed out in her multiple field events during this past weekend's meet, participating in the hammer throw, discus, and shot put. In the shot put, King received fourth place after a throw of 10.16m. In the Discus, King managed to notch a third place finish thanks to a throw of 28.24m. It was in the hammer throw where King showed out though, as the Oswego native recorded a titanic 47.57m toss, besting the previous school record which was set by her last season at 47.41m. For her outstanding showing, King was also rewarded with the Empire 8 Co-Field Athlete of the Week Award.
