CORTLAND, NY - The Utica University women's outdoor track and field team completed day one of the Cortland Classic, hosted by SUNY Cortland on Friday evening.
At the conclusion of day one, Stefania Grimaldi (Poland, NY/Poland Central) currently sits in fourth place in the heptathlon with 2232 points. Grimaldi has competed in the 100mH with a time of 16.57, the high jump clearing 1.44m, an 8.54m shot put toss, and a time of 28.43 in the 200m. Grimaldi will finish the event tomorrow with the long jump, javelin throw, and the 800m.
Amelia Petersen (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) has qualified for tomorrow's final in the 100m hurdles, scooping up the seventh qualifying spot with a time of 16.16.
In the 5000m, Catherine Manna (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) ran her way to a first place finish after clocking in a time of 18:24.15 and qualifying for the AARTFC Regional Championship in the event. That mark now ranks Manna second on the all time leaderboard.
In the 10,000m, Marlo Townsend (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) collected a first place finish with a time of 40:38.97, which slid her into fourth all time.
In the invitational hammer throw, Riley King (Oswego, NY/Oswego) broke her school record in the hammer throw, with a 48.23m throw, collecting a seventh place finish. Hailey Hrouda (Wappingers Falls, NY/Roy C. Ketcham) notched a 44.39m throw that places her fourth on the all time leaderboard in the event.
In the open hammer throw, Ranasia Bailey (Parish, NY/Altmar-Parish-Williamstown) finished in fourth place with a 40.06m throw.
In the javelin throw, MarLie Macek (Kensington, NH/Exeter High School) was the top Pioneer finisher with a 26.42m throw falling just outside of the top five in sixth place.
In the pole vault, Cassondra Wood (Canasota, NY/Canasota) finished in fourth place after securing a 2.95m vault.
In the long jump, Leigha Soto (Amsterdam, NY/Amsterdam) finished just outside the top five, in sixth place with a 4.35m jump.
Utica will complete the Cortland Classic tomorrow, April 19 beginning at 9am in Cortland, NY.
