UTICA NY - The Utica University women's track and field team will be attending the Cortland Classic in Cortland, NY. On Friday April 18 the day will start off at 2pm with the 100 m decathlon. Saturday April 19 will begin at 9am with the Decathlon 110HH and the Heptathlon LJ.

Leaping to New Records: With a stellar performance,
Hannah Allison (Herkimer, NY/Herkimer) broke her school record in the high jump for the third consecutive week this season. The CNY native accomplished a 1.63 leap to secure the top spot. Another Pioneer had an amazing performance in the pole vault event.
Cassondra Wood (Canasota, NY/Canasota) tied the school record with a leap of 3.20m which secured her fourth place in the event.

Top-Ten Tosses: A herd of Pioneers made top-ten finishes in throwing events. Starting out,
Stefania Grimaldi (Poland, NY/Poland Central) was the top Pioneer finisher in the javelin throw with a toss of 31.72m. This throw secured her second place in the event and fifth place in the all-time leaderboard. In the same event,
Sophia Capone (Cumberland, RI/Portsmouth Abbey School),
Jada Anthony (West Nyack, NY/Clarkstown South), and
Amanda Hausle (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West) took home fourth, fifth, and sixth place respectively. In the shot put
Riley King (Oswego, NY/Oswego) placed seventh with a 10.63m toss with
Ranasia Bailey (Parish, NY/Altmar-Parish-Williamstown) not far behind, throwing 9.91m to secure herself ninth place in the event. In the hammer throw King was the top Pioneer finisher again, taking home second place with a 44.88m toss.
Hailey Hrouda (Wappingers Falls, NY/Roy C. Ketcham) and Bailey managed a top ten performance in this event as well. Hrouda landed herself in fifth place with a 43.73 throw and Bailey took home sixth place with a 39.39m toss. Rounding out the top ten finishes was Hrouda in the discus event where she threw 30.67m to take home seventh place.

Commanding the Air: Three Pioneers made the top ten in the long jump taking home second, third and fourth respectively.
Nyasia Marsh (Westmoreland, NY/Westmoreland) jumped 5.19m,
Nora Devitt (Beverly, MA/Beverly) secured a leap of 5.18m, and Grimaldi rounded out the Pioneers with a 5.16m leap. The top Pioneer finisher in the triple jump was Devitt with a leap of 10.65m which secured her second place in the event.

Owning the Lane: In the 1500m the Pioneers dominated the top five.
Catherine Manna (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) finished the event in less than five minutes with a time of 4:59.62 securing her second place.
Jade Dening (Remsen, NY/Remsen) and
Marlo Townsend (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) finished just outside of the five minute mark with three seconds between the pair which allowed them to take home third and fourth place respectively. In the 100m hurdles, Grimaldi took home second place with a time of 16.74 seconds. In the 100m, the duo of
Elizabeth Glomski (Thiells, NY/North Rockland) and
Amelia Petersen (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) each took home top-ten finishes, with Glomski finishing with a time of 13.37 and Petersen with a time of 13.51. In the 800m, Dening and Manna placed sixth and seventh in the event, respectively. Dening crossed the finish with a time of 2:29.36, while Manna came across four tenths of a second later, at 2:26.77. In the 400m hurdles, the duo of Lily Messler and
Mackenzie Mix (Camden, NY/Camden) finished fifth and sixth respectively, with Messler clocking in at 1:10.70 and Mix clocking in at 1:11.97.Â

Up Next: The Utica Pioneers will attend the RPI Capital District Classic on Friday, April 25, 2025 with the time TBD. This meet will be held by RPI in Troy, NY.
