TROY, NY – The Utica University women's outdoor track and field team turned in a strong team performance at the Capital District Classic hosted by RPI on Friday, April 25. The Pioneers placed third overall with 93 points, finishing just one point behind second-place Oneonta.
In the 100m, Mackenzie Mix (Camden, NY/Camden) finished second overall with a time of 12.39. Nyasia Marsh (Westmoreland, NY/Westmoreland) and Elizabeth Glomski (Thiells, NY/North Rockland) also competed in the event, finishing ninth and tenth in the prelims, respectively.
In the 200m, Mix added another top-three finish, placing third in 26.41. Amelia Petersen (Fonda, NY/Fonda-Fultonville) and Glomski also ran in the event, finishing 16th and 17th, respectively.
In the 800m, Catherine Manna (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) led Utica with a sixth-place finish in 2:22.54. Caroline Young, Emma Charboneau (), Kamryn Williams (New York Mills, NY/New York Mills), and Emma Zacharewicz (Round Lake, NY/Saratoga Central Catholic) rounded out the group with top-20 finishes.
In the 100m hurdles, Stefania Grimaldi (Poland, NY/Poland Central) placed sixth in the finals with a time of 16.09.
In the 400m hurdles, Lilly Messler (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) took home the event title, finishing first in 1:10.38.
In the 4x400m relay, the team of Charboneau, Jade Dening (Remsen, NY/Remsen), Manna, and Young placed fourth overall with a time of 4:31.34.
In the high jump, Hannah Allison (Herkimer, NY/Herkimer) tied for first place with a 1.57m clearance. Jada Anthony (West Nyack, NY/Clarkstown South) placed third after clearing 1.47m.
In the pole vault, Cassondra Wood (Canasota, NY/Canasota) won the event with a height of 3.05m, while Molly Segatore (West Brookfield, MA/West Brookfield) finished fifth.
In the long jump, Marsh placed fifth with a mark of 5.09m. Devitt followed in sixth place with a leap of 4.94m.
In the triple jump, Nora Devitt (Beverly, MA/Beverly) was Utica's top finisher, placing third with an 11.29m effort.
In the shot put, Riley King (Oswego, NY/Oswego) placed fifth with a throw of 11.72m. Ranasia Bailey (Parish, NY/Altmar-Parish-Williamstown) and Adriana DeFelice (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown) also competed, finishing ninth and 18th, respectively.
In the discus, King was once again the top Pioneer, placing sixth with a 32.17m throw. Amanda Hausle (Smithtown, NY/Smithtown West), Abbie Knaisch (Addison, NY/Addison), Olivia Clark (Colton, NY/Colton-Pierrepont), and DeFelice also competed for Utica.
In the hammer throw, King threw 45.96m to take fourth place. Hailey Hrouda (Wappingers Falls, NY/Roy C. Ketcham) finished eighth, and Bailey placed tenth.
In the javelin, MarLie Macek (Kensington, NH/Exeter High School) led the Pioneers with a 29.42m toss to take seventh. Sophia Capone (Cumberland, RI/Portsmouth Abbey School) finished ninth, Hausle took 13th, and Knaisch rounded out the group in 14th.
The team will now ready for the Empire 8 Conference Championships that will take place on May 2nd and 3rd at SUNY Brockport.
