Athlete of the Week: Defender
Cora Kraft (Poughquag, NY/Arlington) found the back of the net twice for the Pioneers as the team collected a 5-0 win over Morrisville last weekend. Kraft only had two shots in the contest, both of which would find the back of the net. In a 2-0 week for Utica, Kraft managed to get in on the offensive action multiple times, recording five shots with four shots on goal through a full 180 minutes. Kraft also contributed defensively, helping the Pioneers secure not only 2-0 week, but there was not a single goal allowed by the Pioneers in two games, posting clean sheets against both SUNY Potsdam and Morrisville.
Â
Getting it Done: Amber Piersma (Cassville, NY/Mount Markham) managed to find the back of the net for both Pioneer goals against SUNY Potsdam last week in a 2-0 win over the Bears. Against Potsdam, Piersma totaled 11 shots with four falling on goal. Against Morrisville, Piersma completed her five point week with an assist, as well as tallying another shot on goal. Through two games, Piersma averaged 6 shots per game, and has recorded at least one shot on goal in five out of six games this season.
Samantha Ferguson (Westmoreland, NY/Westmoreland) has been pivotal for the Pioneers off the bench this season as well, with four goals and an assist this season. Ferguson has registered 10 shots on the season, with eight shots on goal.
Madison Wagner (Saukville, WI/Divine Savior Holy Angels) and
Samantha Kogut (North Adams, MA/Drury) have also been playmakers for the Pioneers this season, each tallying three assists on the season.Â

No Goals Allowed: Goalkeepers
Hannah Pcola (Cassville, NY/Mount Markham) and

Of the Pioneer goalkeepers, Pcola is the only Pioneer to post a complete clean sheet this season, combining with Duro for another shutout effort. Duro has only allowed two goals this season with 13 saves on 27 shots faced. Duro has posted two combined shutouts this season, combining with Pcola for one, and
