UTICA, NY - The Utica University women's cross country team is slated to travel to Bethlehem, PA to take on the Paul Short Run, hosted by NCAA Division I Lehigh University on Friday, October 3. The starting gun is set for 1:15pm.

Last Time Out: Back on September 20, the Pioneers competed at the Yellowjacket Invitational, hosted by the University of Rochester. On the women's side,
Marlo Townsend (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) was the first Pioneer to cross the finish line with a time of 23:14.1, finishing just outside the top 20, in 21st place.
Catherine Manna (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) was not far behind Townsend, finishing with a time of 23:59.0.
Maria Stuhlman (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) and
Lacey Simmons (Vernon Center, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) finished exactly two seconds apart with times of 25:07.3 and 25:09.3 respectively. Rounding out the scorecard for the Pioneers was
Isabella Verdejo (New Hartford, NY/New Hartford),
Emma Charboneau (Fultonville, NY/Fonda-Fultonville), and
Kamryn Williams (New York Mills, NY/New York Mills) who each finished under the 30 minute mark.
Who's Going: The Paul Short Run is slated to be one of the largest competitions of the regular season, with 168 total teams competing in the race across all three NCAA Divisions. In division III, there are a total of 74 teams competing. Of the 74 Division III teams, there are only two other Empire 8 schools slated to be in attendance in SUNY Geneseo, and Nazareth.
About the Course: The Goodman Campus Cross Country Course starts on the north end of Goodman Campus, and accommodates four course distances and navigates through a landscape of cornfields, green space, and wooded areas. Regarded as one of the best in the Northeast region and the nation, the course hosts many major racing events including the Paul Short Run - the largest intercollegiate cross country race in the nation - as well as high school and other championships. The course has hosted three NCAA National Championship meets (1979, 1983, 1993) as well as numerous NCAA Regional Championships, most recently in 2017. The current course is the second version of the Lehigh cross country course at Goodman Campus and has existed in its current layout since 1999.
