UTICA, NY - The Utica University women's indoor track and field team hosted the Utica Winter Opener on Friday afternoon.
In the 60m prelims,
Laura Suppa (Canastota, NY/Canastota) continued her dominance posting a time of 7.94 to advance to the finals. In the final, Suppa posted another 7.94 to take second place in the event, tying for fifth place on the program leaderboard in the event.
In the mile,
Marlo Townsend (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) finished just inside the top 10 with a ninth place time of 5:19.43, taking second on the all-time list in the event.
In the 500m, the Pioneers saw several top 10 finishes.
Shiann Williams (Bronx, NY/Hydel) finished second in the event, and sixth all time with a time of 1:21.85.
Lacey Simmons (Vernon Center, NY/Vernon-Verona-Sherrill) finished third with a time of 1:23.74.
Lilly Messler (Washingtonville, NY/Washingtonville) finished eighth with a time of 1:26.19.
In the 800m,
Catherine Manna (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) managed a ninth place finish with a time of 2:25.81, a time good enough for eight on the all time leaderboard.
In the long jump,
Jade Bailey (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) managed a fifth place finish after posting a 4.98m leap, while
Stefania Grimaldi (Poland, NY/Poland Central) managed an eighth place leap of 4.76.
In the triple jump,
Kathryn Williams (New York Mills, NY/New York Mills) managed to finish in ninth place with a 9.38m leap.
In the shot put,
Allie Cary (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) continued her dominance with a second place finishing throw of 12.78m, while
Ranasia Bailey (Parish, NY/Altmar-Parish-Williamstown) finished in 10th with a 9.70m throw.
In the weight throw, Cary continued her successful day with a first place throw of 14.84m, a mark good enough for sixth on the all-time list.
Hailey Hrouda (Wappingers Falls, NY/Roy C. Ketcham) tied her own ninth all time finish with a throw of 14.52m to take second in the event.
In the high jump,
Hannah Allison (Herkimer, NY/Herkimer) finished with a third place clearance of 1.53m.
In the pole vault, the Pioneers managed to go 1, 2, 3 in the event with
Genna McCallum (Mora, MN/Indian River) and
Cassondra Wood (Canasota, NY/Canasota) each clearing 2.72m, while
Isabella Frick (Longmeadow, MA/Longmeadow) cleared 2.42m.
The team returns to action on Sunday, January 18 as the team travels to Boston, MA to take on the Suffolk Ice Breaker at the TRACK at New Balance. Start time is set for 10am.
