UTICA, NY - The Utica University women's indoor track and field team will travel to Ithaca, NY for the Ithaca Invite on Saturday, January 24, with events beginning at 10am inside the Glazer Arena.

Athlete of the Week: Shiann Williams (Bronx, NY/Hydel) has been named Empire 8 Indoor Track Athlete of the Week, as announced by the league on Monday. Williams registered top three finishes in a pair of events over the weekend. In the 500m on Friday at the Utica Winter Opener, Williams posted a time of 1:21.85, a mark good enough for sixth on the all-time leaderboard. On Sunday, Williams took home first place in the 200m open at the Suffolk Ice Breaker Challenge, posting a time of 25.78, beating out several Division I competitors.
On The Track: Utica's record books got updated at the Utica Winter Opener. Laura Suppa (Canastota, NY/Canastota) tied for fifth on the all-time leaderboard in the preliminaries of the 60m with a time of 7.94 good enough for second in the event. Marlo Townsend (Rome, NY/Rome Free Academy) 5:19.43 in the mile placed ninth at the meet and ranks second all-time in program history. Catherine Manna (Whitesboro, NY/Whitesboro) ran eighth all-time in the 800m claiming ninth with a time of 2:25.51. At the Suffolk Invitational, Suppa continued her dominance with a 10th place finish in the 200m invitational, beating out several Division I opponents. Williams and McClendon ran in the 200m open earning first and seventh respectively. Townsend competed in the 3000m run with a time of 10:26.72 and Manna ran 5:32.55 in the mile.
In The Field: In the weight throw at the Utica Winter Opener, Allie Cary (Liverpool, NY/Liverpool) threw for 14.84m moving to sixth all-time and Hailey Hrouda (Wappingers Falls, NY/Roy C. Ketcham) claimed ninth in the Utica record books with a 14.52m throw, good enough to lock up first and second at the meet. Cary also competed in shot put, earning second with a 12.78m throw. Pole vault was dominated by Genna McCallum (Mora, MN/Indian River), Cassondra Wood (Canasota, NY/Canasota), and Isabella Frick (Longmeadow, MA/Longmeadow), who swept the top three with McCallum and Wood clearing 2.72m and Frick clearing 2.42m. In the sand, Jade Bailey (Dolgeville, NY/Dolgeville) earned fifth with a 4.98m long jump, and Stefania Grimaldi (Poland, NY/Poland Central) claimed eighth with a 4.76m long jump.
