Gabriel Zawolo (Rochester, NY/McQuaid Jesuit) and Trinity Bailey (West Winfield, NY/Mount Markham) have been named the Pioneer Athletes of the Week for the week of September 21st.

Gabriel Zawolo (Rochester, NY/McQuaid Jesuit) had his second straight outstanding performance in the Pioneers' 36-29 win over Hobart this past Saturday. A week after falling one catch short of the single-game program record, he once again slotted in as the team's top option, hauling in 11 catches for 111 yards and two touchdowns, the latter two of which were game-highs. Zawolo's first touchdown was also his longest reception of the contest, going for 20 yards as he made a plethora of Statesmen defenders miss. However, the receiver was mainly used in the short game and used his elusiveness to rack up 85 of his 111 yards after the catch. 

Zawolo and the Pioneers will go head-to-head with Alfred State College in Alfred, NY, on Saturday.

Trinity Bailey (West Winfield, NY/Mount Markham) turned in another strong week for the Pioneers, helping Utica to a 2-2 record across four matches. Bailey totaled 43 kills, averaging 3.58 kills per set, while adding 34 digs, four service aces and 47.0 points on the week. She recorded double-digit kills in three of four matches, including 13 kills against SUNY Cobleskill, 12 against Bard and 12 in the weekend finale at Oswego. Bailey also hit .294 against Cobleskill and .267 against Bard before posting a .242 hitting percentage against Oswego. Her 14 points against Oswego were a team-high, while her 12 kills tied for the team lead. Bailey finished the week averaging 3.92 points and 2.83 digs per set, providing a consistent offensive and defensive presence throughout the four-match slate.

Bailey and the Pioneers will attend the Delhi Tri-Match in Delhi, NY, on Saturday.
