Utica, NY (2-20-12) – Sophomore Vanessa Maines, of the Utica College women’s hockey team, was named the College’s Female Athlete of the Week Monday for the week ending Feb. 19, 2012.
Maines posted her first career hat-trick Saturday afternoon to lead UC to a 9-0 victory over Buffalo State in the Pioneers' season finale. She scored the games first goal, which proved to be the eventual game-winner, at 17:28 in the first period and followed that up with back-to-back goals to open up the final period.
The Boxborough, MA native finished the season with 11 points on six goals and three assists. Her six goals were good enough for third on the team. She posted two power-play goals, one game-tying and one game-winning goal.
The Pioneers wrapped up their 2011-12 campaign with an overall record of 10-12-3, including an ECAC Women’s West Conference mark of 7-9-2.
