Senior defender Mick Krajacic of the Utica College men’s lacrosse team was named the College’s Male Athlete of the Week after an incredible performance in the Pioneers’ 9-8 come-from-behind overtime victory against King’s College on Saturday.  The two-time preseason All-American won five face-offs and caused four turnovers in the final 15:51 of play to help spark the Utica rally. 

All told, Krajacic won seven face-offs, caused seven turnovers and scooped up eight ground balls as the Pioneers’ avenged last year’s 6-3 loss at the hands of the Monarchs.  He also added his first goal of the season late in the third quarter to begin the Pioneer charge.

Through seven games this season he ranks third in the Empire 8 Conference with an average of 5.29 ground balls per contest and he currently leads the team with 26 caused turnovers.  In 52 career games, Krajacic has totaled 193 ground balls and 173 caused turnovers. 

Utica is now 5-2 overall headed into its Empire 8 Conference opener against Nazareth College on Wednesday afternoon.  The contest is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m. on the turf at Charles A. Gaetano Stadium.
